Hi all -
I picked up a Lowrance GlobalMap100 GPSr off eBay. It came with a manual and that's it. It works fine for what I've tried to do so far. Except programming waypoints by hand isn't much fun.
I'd like to use the serial connection to ul/dl waypoints. I could buy the cable and software from Lowrance (I think) but I see so many things like GSAK and think there has to be a cheaper / better way to go.
Unfortunately, I haven't had much luck finding any info out in the ether specifically relative to Lowrance GPSr's.
Anyone know what I can do (besides shut up and pay the $$$)? |

| well you could see if there's any sites that tell you how to build a lo-tech cable for it, but I'm guessin about the easiest way is to just buy one. Really all you need is the cable, not any fancy lowrance software. |

That's what I was hoping, but what gets the info in and out of the GPSr?
I did find a site that lets me build a cable for cheap. |

Various pieces of software can transfer data on and off the GPS unit.
Most commonly used is EasyGPS or GPSbabel. Both are free to use but GPSbabel is completely free and open. _________________ Sad state of affairs. |

Anyone know for sure if either of those supports Lowrance? _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."

| good question, never tried. I can't imagine it wouldn't though, just trial and error to find a gps listed that will be compatible. |

Wow! Thanks guys. I found a site with radioshack parts and instructions on making your own cable for about $10. That and EASYGPS ought to get me there.
I'll post with the results so the next schlub with one of these GPSr's won't have to bug EVERYONE.
Thanks again! |
