I had to buy some NIMH batteries. I checked them out of the package and they were stone dead. No charge at all and wouldn't light the GPS even for a second.
An hour of road time with the GPS plugged in brought it up to maybe 15-20% of battery capacity as indicated by the unit. Not very impressive charging, but charging adequate to more or less maintain the unit while I drive from cache to cache
I have an iWay 100. It uses the same connection and measures the same way. I don't presently consider it useful as a caching GPS unless it's connected to the battery in my bag because it seems to eat batteries and does not seem to charge them. Functionally it is nearly identical to the IFinder hunt, and I expect that if I renamed the firmware update for the hunt to match the firmware extension of the iWay 100 it would probably make the iWay 100 into an iFinder Hunt. The iWay has voice output, the Hunt has voice memos so the power consumption ought to be equivalent, but they sure don't seem to be. |
