Since I started kayaking a few years ago, I have kept a list of all the lakes that I have circumnavigated. I started out this season with 60 lakes on my list and challenged myself to hit 100 by fall. This morning I headed out to Stearns County and paddled around Big, Middle and Lower Spunk Lakes. My list now stands at 101!
Now maybe I can start thinking about caching again! _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."

| Congrats Moe! That's quite an accomplishment, I'd be lucky to circumnavigate 1 lake anytime soon (I think I'd need a kayak first anyway). |

No, but I have been trying to think up a way to take on Mille Lacs. _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."

As a newbie to kayaking . . . . I'm impressed! I've done some kayaking up on Lake Superior, the inland waters in SW Florida. I live on Lake Minnetonka and perhaps should make circumnavigation my goal . . . . Though I'll have to give up my day job if I don't want to give up the walking and biking . . . . .
Out of curiosity - do you take the GPS with you when you kayak? Right now I'm using a Current Designs Kestral 120. I consider this a "toy" boat. I'm not interested (at this time, anyway) in a "real" boat. I haven't tipped the thing over yet and I would like to keep it that way. I plan to graduate to a composite Kestral 140 next year. Anyway, I average about 3 mph when kayaking at a steady paddling pace. How 'bout you? I can't get a heart rate even any where near that of walking, so kayaking doesn't count as exercise. Is your experience the same? |

Absolutely!

I average about 4.5 mph. I'm sure some of the difference between your speed and mine is the boat, but much of it is probably due to the effort I put in to it. Due to the physics of fluid dynamics, small increases in speed through water require large increases in power input. My heart rate when paddling is equivalent to a brisk walk but nowhere near what I get on a bike. _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."

Great job Moe. Keep the paddle in the water and you'll be at your next milestone in no time. _________________ Airborne All the Way! |
