I wish I would have had my camera the other night. I was out for a walk with my wife around Lake Nokomis. We decided to cross the bridge back over the lake because we were going to have dinner outside at Fat Lorenzo's nearby. As we're walking across the bridge (west side), I looked over and saw a dozen or so of these huge catfish gulping up stuff from the surface. I bet the biggest was 10 to 15 lbs. They were huge! I don't know what they were eating. I thought they are usually bottom feeders.

I wonder if it is related to air quality today.

I'm certainly no expert on fish, so they could have been. These had long whiskers. Do carp also have whiskers?

hehe - yep.

I just goggled carp and saw several photos of carp with a single whisker on each side of the mouth, so it's very possible they could be carp. I don't know for sure.

However, when I was recently in Oklahoma on my mom's farm, I saw catfish feeding on the surface. However, the reason was intentional. They have large pellets of fish food in 55lb bags that they feed to the catfish and perch in the pond to keep them fat for fishing. They would ring a bell, and like Pavlov's dogs, the fish would come to the surface before the food was even thrown out. Really cool to watch them feed. Those catfish would suck up the feed like a vacuum cleaner, while the perch did a hit and run approach.

And I thought the crappies I've been catching on South
Sturgeon were good sizers.

That is one scarey catch!

From the looks of that pic I wouldn't be surprised was it noodled, and knowing what that entails with one of them in the water it ought to cure anyone of that kind of nonsense.
