Silent Bob and I spent the day yesterday caching the Grand Rapids area. SB picked me up at 4:30 a.m. and we made the three hour drive north, finding a few caches on the way. At the first cache near Grand Rapids we met up with the Head Hooligan who joined us for several caches before heading to Duluth to reset his counter.
During the day we spotted a great grey owl, two bald eagles (one sitting on its nest right above a cache), several loons and Silent Bob's Tick Dance. By days end we had hiked numerous miles, found 30 caches (31 for SB who found one I had previously) including five multis (including one DNFed by Minnesota a couple of days earlier, heh).
At 6:00 p.m. we started the trek back home. It was an awsome day. If you're looking for a geocaching road trip, I wholeheartedly recommend the Grand Rapids area. W00t!! _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."

I was wondering how many you guys would find. Great. We are planning to take the camper over to that area this summer and spend a couple of days caching. WE have to go to Bagley in a few weeks and plan to cache over and then from there cache our way down to Spirit Mt for the Lester Park event. _________________ LIFE IS GOOD;CABIN LIFE IS GREAT |

I added a couple caches to my "Favorites" list due to this trip: http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=59c40eac-d547-47d1-be22-b62a761d7bcd
I enjoyed the vast number of fantastic caches all within a small area. Moe did most of the complaining about the hikes although I think that was because he had a good time looking at my back
Thanks to all those in the Grand Rapids area that hid those caches and thanks to Minnesota for making us work *real* hard to find them _________________ Sad state of affairs. |

Ladies and gentlemen, there is a new model of Silent Bob out there caching of late. Methinks he took his training for MOGA quite seriously.
Although, I do recall that when the terrain got serious, I was the first to the top. _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."

I was just trying to stay behind you in case you fell. I didn't want to have to make two trips to drag you to the top _________________ Sad state of affairs. |

It was great to join you for part of the day! Indeed those of us who cache up north on a regular basis do enjoy our natural surroundings. As we say sure beats a micro in the metro! However I can't remember is the tick dance; Hop, Hop, Hop scowl. Or Hop, scowl, Hop, Hop! _________________ If I'm not Crazy, am I Sane??? |

Wow I don't remember there being that many hops in the dance. I must have missed some. 380 something seems like a very, very, very, very long time..... _________________ If I'm not Crazy, am I Sane??? |

30 woodticks or 30 caches?
30 caches in one day.. youse folks must be insane!!!
soon i will give up manually entering coords and also
the 'paper game' as i call it.
maybe then i can find hooligan's tioga mine!
how fun, glad you had a great time "up north!"
you picked a great weekend to venture north.
today was a bit rainy and coooool.
i found my first tick today - while vegging at a meeting
in mt. iron.. i wasn't even in the woods. flicked that sucker
across the room and made sure it didn't crawl back my way!
it's fun to hear of your ventures.........

It was absolutely gorgeous weather. Clear blue skies and just cool enough that we were barely overheating by the time we got back from some of those 1+ mile hikes.
Great times and I can't wait to do it again _________________ Sad state of affairs. |

Maybe we should start a new stat. If you get 10 caches and 10 ticks in one day, its a double double. Or a triple double? 10 caches, 10 ticks and 10 mosquito welts. A great Minnesota status symbol.

A little over a year later we did it *again*; taking our annual Spring Trip "up North", Moe and I did 17 more caches in the Hibbing/Bovey area while meeting up with Minnesota Gadget Girl, Team Hooligan, and Kayak Sailor.
Three things that I can say about this trip:
1. The weather was unbelievable. Somehow Moe and I are able to be on the Range when the sun is out, the skies are clear, and the temperatures are up. Whereas during our first trip there the temps were apparently cool, yesterday they were in the low 70s and the sun was brutal -- especially during our 2+ mile hikes! I am *extremely* sunburned and beat but it was *SO* worth it!
2. Newer cache hiders are *definitely* influenced by other local cachers. We did some *fine* caches hidden by newer caches (especially Space Dweebs) that made me spend 15+ minutes just taking pictures and standing in awe of the view.
3. This trip has again cemented my belief that a regular sized cache hidden at the end of a 1+ mile trek is *far* better than any puzzle micro that puts me at a lamp skirt in a parking lot, in a playground, or at a geobeacon just waiting to be destroyed by overzealous cachers.
Thanks to the Hooligan, his lovely caching GF MGG (who absolutely owned us numerous times), and to Kayak Sailor (who showed us how to "surf" down rock piles to save time between caches).
I've added a couple more caches from this area to my favorites list. If you're looking for the best day of caching you're likely to find, hit up the caches on the Range. You won't be disappointed.
