Ah, don't worry.
Predictability will be the last thing you will see in the future.

I noticed today that cache approval is very much not predictable. It used to be they were approved a couple of hours before I headed home from work. Now it seems like they are all over the board. Good job, and thanks for the work mtn-man!

Though it is posted that caches generally get approved within 72 hours, please realize that our local reviewers have full-time jobs, families, etc. Sometimes it can take longer than expected. If it has been longer than a week, please get back to me and I would be more than happy to investigate further.

I'm sorry, but a week before they take action???

Have you tried sending the WI approver an email, or PM, WGA, I think (on a on a dialup 56k now, sorry) and try to set up something with them?
This seems to be an ongoing problem - maybe getting them involved could move it forward? between them and mtn-man - maybe we get better coverage, relax the load on him, etc?
sorry if this was covered earlier, but as I said this dialup is killing me.....

It's not just the speed of approval (or lack thereof) of a cache.

I have just stumbled on to a listing that was immediately archived (The 1st of 1st's). It's a cache located on Grand Marais' Artists Point. The reason given by mtn-man for archiving? "It is too close to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, which is off limits to caches." That seems a bit pedantic. Anyone who has been to Grand Marais already knows how ludicrous that statement is.

It's a good thing that the Forest Service doesn't follow that sort of logic, or else motorized vehicles wouldn't be allowed in Grand Marais, or even on the Gunflint Trail (which is much closer the BWCA).

And speaking of the Gunflint, using that previous reasoning, shouldn't the caches that really ARE close to the BWCA be archived? The Gunflint caches, eagleyes cache's around Ely and environs, etc.

Yes, my argument is reductio ad absurdum, but isn't already a little absurd to have someone from out of state approving or rejecting caches? It would seem to make sense to have one or more MN geocachers (or even a board) responsible for approval.

Good grief. That one's in a town waterfront park. OldBaldEagle and I were in Grand Marais a few weeks ago and we couldn't understand why that place wasn't loaded with caches. Maybe now I have an idea.

Evidently, no Minnesotans qualify, due to Jeremy and Company's "high standards"

To be compeltely fair, only two people were acceptable to mtn-man and only one person was denied by Jeremey's elitist crew.

They will not accept a board to do the "reviewing" nor is it likely that they will even discuss the situation further.

If you have a problem with a cache archival or approver issue in general email GSP at approvers@groundspeak.com and voice your opinion.

I certainly have no desire to do the job myself. I don't like bickering to begin with, if I was an approver, I'd hear nothign but Laughing

I don't blame them. At this point, the approvers have more of a priority of protecting Groundspeak Inc.'s interests instead of the interest of geocachers. And to have to do it for free?

I'm interested in seeing how some other models for cache approval work such as having other cachers vouch for a cacher's responsibility and not having an "approval" processes. Responsible cachers, who are the majority, should not have to have a third party approve if they can play or not.
