I have a coworker off B-Ville Parkway that I pick up for work every day, so it was no problem for me to swing past--I was remembering that the cache was a stone's throw from an observation well, so it wouldn't have been a good idea to leave it there now that it's starting to get more attention. As an added bonus, there was a TB and a Laker inside that weren't there when I visited yesterday. Sorry, 5 Savages--no more cache, but still a neat spot to visit. _________________ There comes a time in every young boy's life when he gets an irresistible urge to seek buried treasure.--Mark Twain |

No problem, I was just kidding anyway. I live in Savage (hence the name) and I hadn't managed to make it there yet. I'd rather it be removed sooner than later anyway. It will be a LOOOOOOONG time before I run out of caches to find.
You know, another thing I was wondering about with this cache is if it was a geocacher looking for this cache, or the owner, who came across the dead body:

That sounds prett close to the cache site. As it turns out it WAS the gentleman who they suspected, and it was determined to be a suicide. |

Body found in Savage Fen
By Nancy Huddleston, Editor
Sunday, May 01, 2005
The body of a man was found at around noon on Sunday (May 1) in the Savage Fen Wetland Complex, just off a service road.
Chief Gordon Vlasak said someone on a nature walk discovered the body, which was located in a wooded area about 35 yards off an old service road.
Vlasak said the body has been turned over to coroner for positive identification and no foul play is suspected. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday (May 2).
Police are not speculating about the idenity of the person found on Sunday, but they have been investigating the disappearance of 39-year-old Todd Henrey McLaughlin since
March 6. "We're not ruling out the possibility that this could be Todd or any other missing person from the Twin Cities area," said Det. Dave Muelken. "The medical examiner's report will provide the information we need to identify this person."
McLaughlin was last seen leaving his parents’ home on 125th Street in downtown Savage. His family distributed flyers, went door-to-door and conducted numerous searches throughout downtown and the surrounding area, including one down the service road. Police conducted an extensive search of the Minnesota River area and the river itself after tracks leading to the river were found in the snow. |

Hydee has archived the cache. We're all good now. Thanks everyone for the help on this. _________________ Sad state of affairs. |

This should be added to the MnGCA Guidelines page as well. _________________ mtn-man... (formerly) Keeping an eye on the King! |

As I stated to mtn-man in a private e-mail (as he doesn't always frequent our forum), the DNR ban is a blanket ban which apparently includes SNAs and AMAs along with the State Parks. If you look closely into their rules you will see "abandoned property" listed in them all.
While they haven't given us a specific ban (as they did with the State Parks and the SNAs) it still would be covered by the DNR ban and thus does not need to be listed on the guidelines page. _________________ Sad state of affairs. |

I see what mtn-man is saying now. The current listing is confusing because it relates only to "Minnesota State Parks" when in fact it should probably note DNR land. I will move this discussion to the Board and we will come up with a solution to the listing.
Sorry for the confusion. _________________ Sad state of affairs. |

| I haven't been paying real close attention here (maybe I should have been). You are saying that the DNR is currently banning caches on ANY land that it owns, regardless of it's designation (SNA, AMA, SP, ABC, DEF, GHI, etc, etc)? |
