I know of at least one. But it uses listed benchmarks.

Is this one using a listed benchmark? I can't tell while searching the nearby ones... Maybe PearHead or EskoClimber could let us know.

There is another cache in the south metro that involves a benchmark (Silent Bob, you were there when I found it) and I know it is not listed! Wink

It is? I was pretty sure that REFUGE was a seperate BM that was maybe 50' from the USDA mark. I don't think the USDA mark is a listed mark with NGS.. I can check with EC and see I suppose...

The benchmark used by King of the Hill is not listed with NGS. THere is a
nearby BM that IS listed, however. The BM that is used for King of the Hill
was monumented by the USFS, part of the US Dept of Agriculture, and was set
under the Lookout Tower. The NGS benchmark is approximately 50 feet away
from the tower (typical) and made of a different material.
Using the listed BM would have been entirely to easy. Besides, I never
did find any of the reference markers for the NGS mark. There should be two
of them as I recall.

There is a multi-cache in Michigan called "Puzzling CD Swap" GCHB5A that uses 6 benchmarks set by the Coast Guard, none of which are listed on geocaching.com.
There is another cache in the Duluth area, set out by Pear Head, that also uses a benchmark.
Question for the group. What kind of benchmark "milestone" were you discussing? Number of finds? Coolest benchmark Location? Or just plain most memorable benchmark?

Originally this thread was to discuss people who have found 50+ benchmarks (we list milestones at 50, 100, and then increments of 100 thereafter).

miles58 just wanted to know what to do w/benchmarks that aren't listed.

speaking on topic, I've been organizing a bit so I can get out and find some more benchmarks and reach some milestones on them finally.

Just the other day I hit the closest accessible one to my house, after almost a year of knowing approximately where it was. There is one closer, but on a private golf course.

I had to literally search through my caches to figure out which one you were referring to.

The BM that is used is actually a section corner marker I think.

In reference to Pear Head's cache that uses a benchmark, yes that is a section corner. Made you think on that one, eh PH?
