Arcticabn came over tonight and after a good dinner we checked out the caches along the routes. We decided to split the task. I will take the cache route planning on the way down and he will plan the return trip.

Question before I go for this is do we want to drive for two hours, cache for two hours, drive, cache? Do we want to just do park and grabs off the highway one at a time? Or do we want to drive all the way to Kansas City and cache the area out (minus break stops on the way down 35)?

Right now we are planning on creating several different GPXs and have them on USB keydrives to upload to the units as we need them. That way your GPS isn't full of 2000 waypoints at a time.

Most of us have the same cable but make sure you bring your own just in case.

Please give me an idea of what you want to do soon Smile

--This message was sent through the Geocaching.com web site--

Just saw your post for MOGA. Me and one or two other guys from IGO(Iowa Geocachers Org.) will be heading for MOGA about the time you are passing through here...perhaps. We will be departing down US 63 from Toledo sometime on Thursday morning with my 5th wheel in tow. If you are heading over this way let me know what you'll be driving and we'll keep an eye out for you.

You can't miss my rig...green Ford pickup with a white 5'er. Lots of Iowa
State, Good Sam and geocaching stickers too.

If you do use US 63 be sure to consider a detour to "American Gothic" in SE Iowa. It's a great little break from the road (and take your camera).

I told him we weren't planning on going that way but let him know our campsites and offered them a free visit if they were interested Smile

My preference would be to do an occasional cache or two all the way down, similar to what we did last year.

Well, we did take a couple longer breaks to do a group of them. Do you want to do one group and then the rest of them as 1 or 2 between drives?

I don't really care as long as we don't drive all the way to KC without an occasional caching break.

I'm with Moe on this It's nice to get out and stretch! Was the fire wood that bad last year? I could bring some good wood to dry out the wet stuff.

Sent a route home plan to SB for review.

Got us stopping every two hours or so to get 4 or 5 caches.

Sunday we would take easy caches after we leave the park. Springfield and Peoira would be the stops. Planned night stop in Peoria (Motel 6) is less then a mile from the last planned cache for Sunday.

On Monday got three major stops planned. Just North of Peoria in the Jubilee College State Park, Cedar Rapids and Mason City.

PM me your e-mails and I'll send you the GPX, CSV and Streets and Maps file.

Sent Tim an e-mail asking when they thought that things would wrap up on Sunday. This was his response.

Iím thinking the awards and attendees prize give always should be finished by 10:30 or 11:00.

The technical caches in the afternoon will last most of the day. They are just for fun no need to stay for them if you need to hit the road.

Thanks

Tim

I modified the camping reservations to reflect our arrival on Friday instead of Thursday. So we have sites #108 and #110 in Section 2 for Friday night and Saturday night. Check-in is 3pm on Friday and check-out is 2pm on Sunday.

Oh, we are going to cache on the way down and back? Just Kidding...

Looking forward to the trip!

Question with my cable. I have a Garmin 3 plus, so it has the round plug with four pins. But the other end is a nine pin connector, not a USB. Will this work with what we are bringing?

JT's laptop had a serial cable last year as that's the connector most of us needed then and because most of us have Garmin's w/the round connector available that should work just fine.

I don't believe there is anyone that will use a different cable other than the round one or the USB (and I think everyone *could* use the round).

I have a list of 39 caches for Thursday. I'm tired of piecing through the caches and deciding which ones to remove. Right now there's a grouping every hour or so. Once we get to KC there are a bunch to do. Then more along 70 as we head towards St. Louis. I removed any obnoxious multis, puzzles, etc. Hopefully they will be ok.

You can see a preliminary list of the 39 here: http://geostud.org/route.html -- let me know if there are any I need to remove that I missed.

I added Northern Invader by KB after we cross into IA as well. It's not listed on the route.html. Just a FYI.
