Thanks - that's what I did. Just wanted to make sure that I didn't miss the "sign up here, stupid" form.

Ditto. The mailed package will come with a map labeling the quadrants so that you can make selections. There are only two small forms to fill out. Took about 30 minutes, most of which was spent trying to fold and unfold the map.

I knew this was a parody of the great Huston/Bogart The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. I've heard it quoted several times on TV and googled it. Another reason the internet is great:

Stinking Badges

Always wondered where that "we don't need no stinking coordinates" came from....anyway I too am awaiting my packet...and can't wait for the stinking badge too! Very Happy

Have my packet, but I still gotta fill it out and send it in. Hoping to get the woodbury/lake elmo area. St. Paul would be cool, but I'm thinkin it'd take forever to finish that quad.

Just filled out and sent in my forms. Left the Woodbury / Lake Elmo area to you.

My 3 choices in order of preference were:
--White Bear Lake West (includes Maplewood)
--St. Paul East (this is where I live now but as you said there would be way too much. . . )
--White Bear Lake East

I hope to someday do Norwedigan Bay (one of several Lake Vermilion quads) as well as this is where my dad lives. Should be a smaller set of accessible landmarks as well.

This would not be cool for a guy type cop.

Hey, hey now, Jake and Elwood are cool guy types! Now I'm off to check out the website...

Cool, I'm back home and will get my paperwork in quick here. I had wondered if the powers that be with the National Map would consider dividing up a quad so a couple people could take it, mainly because a quad ousited of a city shouldn't be too hard, but a city one could take a large amount of time.

Ah well, back from vacation and tons to catch up on.

Well, I never got my packet, or any word from the USGS, so I called them back today and left another message.

Send them an e-mail with your interest and mailing address. They should send you a packet then.

Try this e-mail address. It's the one that I used to get started.

tnmcorps@usgs.gov

I just sent them my interest and my full mailing address and they replied.

Just an FYI to Dachebo and anybody else who sent a note to the USGS recently - I received the official packet in the mail from the Map Corps today, so my concerns turned out to be unfounded. We'll see how this and Firewise MN stack up vs. my ever-dwindling free-time, and see how things shake out!

I got approved for the Marine on St. Croix area. Got another packet of information, a *cough* badge, and I'll get my map in a couple weeks.
