We also have a couple possibles coming in from IA. I posted a message on the Eastern Iowa Geocaching Association forum and got a pretty decent response.

Tons more people have signed up on the event page itself and 21 people are watching the cache page. Seems like we could have quite the turnout for this event.

Towlebooth, s4xton, and I will be at Murphy Hanrehan Saturday planning the course. I will be putting together a packet of information after that planning day to pass out to all participants as they arrive.

If anyone isn't interested in running the course (or is bringing someone along that isn't) but still wants to be involved please let me know privately and I can make sure we have something for you to do Smile

Those of you with two-way FRS radios. Please bring them to the event. The area covered is large (3+ miles depending) and we will want to be in contact with those that are out there hunting the stages. I plan to be walking the entire course throughout the day but I can't be everywhere at once. Radios will help if you are stuck on a stage, etc.

I will have a trunkload of bottled water and some small snacks for everyone. I have suggested on the cache page that you might want to bring your own food (either cook it there or brown-bag it) as we won't be providing anything for you. The event is going on from 9am until 5/5:30 so it's a long day to go w/o eating.

I'll be updating everyone here (and on the cache page) as soon as I return from the planning stages on Saturday.

Thanks everyone for your support.

Is anyone going to have a grill? If I make it I could bring some turkey brats from work. Have bacon cheddar flavored ones. Let me know if anyone is interested.

I can bring mine along and throw it in the back. I won't have time to cook them though.

I'm just asking. Got a whole case of them Cheap! New product testing. It's only 27# worth. I could bring if pple wanted to try them. Was just an idea.

When you work for the leading Turkey producing company in the nation, they tend to get alot of samples for new products. It just so happens that this product is going to be produced at our plant.

s4xton, towlebooth, and I walked the entire southern side of the park. We marked every trail intersection and every possible waypoint we could use as a stage.

Currently, we are looking in the 7 to 10 mile range for the course. For people making the trip from out of state (and the Range) we wanted to make sure it was worth their while!

I haven't 100% decided on what points will be used for what but we do have 31 possible waypoints for stages. The terrain is generally mild but the trails are quite slick in spots. I never actually hit the ground but I did slip several times. I did a lot of slow walking at times and even took a breather near the end.

Once we decide on the points I will have a better estimate of the total distance but it won't be 100% accurate as the trails do turn and twist through the park. This event is not for the faint of heart! While you don't have to do the entire thing I do suggest walking the park as it is absolutely beautiful and some of the stages take you to parts you likely would never go to...

If you have any questions for me, go for it.

To add... Silent Bob is spot on. The park is beautiful. If you finish this course and you're not tired out, you're on my team down in MO.

Are we going to have enough FRS radios for the event this weekend? I have two of my own and could get a couple from a friend of mine. Do I need to grab them? I will also have a cooler full of sausages. I could also bring my extra GPS if someone would need one.
