Orienteering punches? Do we get to wear orienteering uniforms? _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."

What Moe said--it'd be much more fun if we can wear the "Spock" suits!!! _________________ There comes a time in every young boy's life when he gets an irresistible urge to seek buried treasure.--Mark Twain |

| Sounds like fun... not familiar with orienteering myself. I'll have to do a little bit of reading up I think. |

The event itself has nothing to do with orienteering. The stages are just punches from the orienteering world because that's what they used in MO last year.
You are still going to use your GPS and while you could use a compass it's not required. |

Oh good, because I'm not very good with a compass (yet). I just bought one this past summer and while I more or less understand how to use it, I don't think I'd be able to use it efficiently enough to do actual orienteering with a map yet.
Wish I could go to MOGA. That's not gonna happen for me this year. |

Just thought I would chime in as this event is very close to what our family does in the summer, on our horses. Our events usually consist of 10 objectives. They can be found in any order, you don't get to see the map until your time starts, and the course ranges from 10 to 15 and sometimes more miles. Oh, and no electronics are allowed. So, the 3 things you need to be able to do are; ride your horse, read a map, and work a compass. Here is more info, if interested...

Excuse my logic on this, but if SB and the others that are setting this event up are going to use this as a brush up for the event in MO. How is this going to help them if they already know the course?
I hate showing my logical side!
I'll blame it all on Kitch. _________________ King of the Jeff Gordon TB's!

This event is to utilize the orienteering punches that the MOGA event will showcase and hide them in such a way that you will be hiking multiple miles to find all the stages and get back to the start as fast as you can. We don't know what the course will be like in MO but we are trying to emulate the conditions we will see so that we are more comfortable than if we just went down there and had no idea what we were doing (like last year).
Hopefully it will get some people out of the 300 ft. park and grab mentality and into the 3+ mile multi mentality. For me it will force me to walk the course numerous times (preparation the weekend before, hiding the stages the morning before, and removing them afterwards).
I will likely end up in better shape than anyone else |

Nah, you just need more work than anyone else to get into shape in the first place. _________________ I am amazed by how many people harp on the need to speak and write English in this country while exhibiting a fundamental lack of skills in the areas of spelling and sentence composition. My question: Of those that are planning to attend this training event, how many are actually planning on going South for the real event? _________________ Airborne All the Way! |

I'm in for both, but will be helping a bit with setup. Hopefully I can somehow setup and run the course, even if helping takes me out of the punchout competition. |
