Interesting... then "Gizhe-manidoo" are the same words in Ojibwe and Potawatomi... this means "large spirit". It's actually the "manidoo" (manitou) part that means spirit.
I took a quarter of Ojibwe in college, but decided not to pursue it any further than that... here's an example of why I didn't:
"Miinaanbaashkiminisijiganbitooyinsijiganibukwayszhiigan" is the largest word in Ojibwe... it means "blueberry pie". If you think German has some long words, you ain't seen nothing until you've looked at an average Ojibwe sentence.
I decided to take the Dakota language instead, which is much easier to learn. |
