Last night we hit our 1000 cache milestone.
Today I stumbled unto www.cacherstats.com - and discovered we were the 647th MN cacher to hit 1000.

So that got me thinking - when will MN as a state hit 1000 cachers with 1000 finds?

I am going to guess 10/10/2017.
Anyone else want to hazard a guess?

Some numbers for reference:
Number 1000 in the state is currently listed at 548.
My understanding is the first to hit 1000 in MN did so on 4/17/2004. The fact that we hit 1000 on the 10th aniversary of the first MN cacher hitting 1000 was only uncovered while writing this post.

Congrats! I'm hoping to do it by the end of this year.

Time sure does fly! I haven't looked at those archived cache pages in a long time. Really enjoyed the memories!

I am guessing it will take much longer. Something tells me that the number of addicted binge cachers (like me) that had the potential to do multiple thousands of caches, is going down, not up.

This is not scientific, but I looked at the stats for the first 10 cachers listed that are just below the 1,000 mark. Their total caches found for 2014 were, in order:

24
97
2
404
5
26
107
61
58
63

There are way, way more people fizzling out before they make it to 1,000 than there are cachers going strong close to 1,000, and I think that's a trend. All but two of these cachers "peaked" back in '08 or '09 and have tapered off steadily since. I just think that the power cachers that are going to pound out 1,000 in a year or two are mostly already well past 1,000, and the more recent joiners are perhaps less addicted because so many of their first finds were lamp posts and street signs, and they missed out on the most addictive glory days of caching.

It'd be interesting to know "how" people get to 1,000.

For me it's primarily because I have been caching so darn long . . . when it's more than 10 years, well, 100 caches a year is pretty casual.

I also did the 366 challenge that bumped up my numbers. But ultimately, I found I don't really enjoy that kind of caching so much. I wouldn't say I've "fizzled" though. I just have my steady level that I enjoy caching when I want exercise or to get into the woods.

I often check people's profiles when I'm planning a needs maintenance or needs archived log and it amazes me how many people who have not found anything for a year or more still check the website. I guess there are lots of ways to engage.

I was actually hoping to get some more guesses...

BTW, the current numbers are 715 with 1000+ and number 1000 in the state is at 624.
So in the 243 days since I posted my guess there have been 73 MN cachers hit 1000 (or 0.3 a day). At that rate it would take 950 days to hit 1000 (roughly July 2017).
The other way of looking at it is the number 1000 spot moved up 96 finds (or 0.4 a day). At that rate it would take 940 days to hit 1000 (again roughly July of 2017).

It had taken me just over 10 years to hit 1,000. It has never been for me to rack up the numbers, but to enjoy it when I do go out. Now that I hit 1,000, it's filling a calendar and working on Jasmer.... after that, it will probably be the D/T grid. And sometimes, it's trying to come up with putting out a puzzle cache that no one's done yet (I might have one of those coming soon Twisted Evil ). That is the nice thing about caching, you make it into the game you want to play....

Back when I got my 1000th there weren't all the lamp post and micros in street signs. Most of the caches I got back then were fun. Now that there are so many park and grabs I can understand newbies not staying interested with it.

I have made it a goal of mine to only hide fun/interesting/unique hides. There are just too many bison tubes in street signs already. I only hide those now if it is a puzzle or multi final and I am slowly archiving all my bison tubes in street signs that are traditionals (I don't have any LPC's).

When we hit 1000 I took a bunch of screen captures of our stats and included them in our personnel trackable's log of the find.
