I leave all my caching clothes in the garage, including the shoes. They like to hide in shoes. You think you've change all your clothes, but put your shoes back on....

Sunday My Geo dog and I went out to the Sand Dunes State Forest.
I planted four new ones and found a few.
I put permithrin on my clothes and wore a thermocell.
We did some serrious bushwacking while out there.
My dog had no repelents on since he got sick when I used permithrin
on him once, I don't do it any more.
when we got home i gave us both a very good tick check and found
none. I have since looked him over agian and still find none.
maybe they are slowing down now.

Sunday I went up to Rum river State Forest with my dog.
Strange again no ticks on us both. Deer flies and skeeters bad though.

Geez! my luck ran out! No ticks from Sand Dunes or Rum River state forests. But when I go to Maple Grove I get four. Two thought they could get me through my shirt and jeans. They buried thier heads in the cloth.
I found the other two crawling on me. All wood ticks, I have not seen a Deer tick for a few weeks.

Time again to start checking for ticks. With the warm-up, the little devils will be out this week.

I was out birding yesterday and found my first deer tick. Took our grandson caching today and Trekkin' found three. All deer ticks.

So much for the deep freeze affecting them.

They're Here! Found one of those little critters crawling on my arm after a short hike caching in the Sand Dunes today.

I am sad to say I've been flicking them off for a couple of weeks now.

Still have yet to find one, ever, in all my forays into the forests of MN and across the cheddar curtain into WI. Lots of ticks, no deer ticks.

This afternoon I discovered a deer tick in my scalp. The nurse practitioner at CVS Minute Clinic confirmed it when he pulled it out. I have some Doxycycline left from a previous run-in, but will also call my Dr tomorrow and inform him about this.
I think I got the little bugger while caching on Nicollet Island in Minneapolis this morning.

Next year I'm going to send a set of clothing off to these guys: http://www.tickencounter.org/resources/InsectShieldYourOwnClothes_TERC.pdf

The commercially applied permethryn lasts ten times as long as the home applied spray.

Tuck your socks in or wear bungee cords around your ankles, and treat your car seats with permethryn, too.

So far, no ticks this year, despite being out almost every day during morel season.
