Does anyone have any idea why videos I take with my phone work and play well on the phone (with volume), but when I send them to my computer, only the video plays and there is no audio? I have VideoLan downloaded and it is supposed to support .3g2 files, but no go with the volume. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but that did not work. Our Windows Media player does not work because when I reformatted and reinstalled our computer, somehow the codecs are now missing and I don't want to rebuy them which is why I downloaded VideoLan. I can play a movie through my computer and the volume works, it just has to do with these .3g2 files sent from my phone. I have tinkered with my computer all afternoon seeing if something somehow got disabled, but I cannot find anything. Plus I would think that would have fixed itself with an uninstall/reinstall. I would like the videos to work because I am working on a blog that will showcase my two passions--geocaching and chickens. I don't know if asking you all is the right approach, but I have been helped immensely in this forum before. Any help would be much appreciated!

You might try this, although I couldn't tell if this person was doing this on a mac or a PC... (I would also duplicate your test file first before doing it) they simply changed the file extension from .3gp2 to.avi and claim it played back in Quicktime with audio (and I would assume it would probably work in Windows Media Player as well as VLC)

I am surprised VLC is having issues with it, from a quick glance it sounds like the 3gp2 is not liked by many machines.

The other thing you may try if that fails is a program called Handbrake, it will convert most video files into other video files... so using it you could (probably) convert is to a more universal format like .mp4 Handbrake is free and as long as your PC is semi-new should crank through most files pretty quick. (You'll know it is the right program when the icon looks like a pineapple) We usually use the Apple TV "preset" when we have to use this program at the station.
