I thought I was crazy by geocaching today during the sleet and snow. But TriggerMN had the nerve to find Pillars of the Earth today. Crazy.

Quote:
Bah! Now I see that I could have driven much closer to this cache. After striking out at the mud flats challenge cache, I stopped back at the car to have some lunch, warm up, and dry off a bit. By the time I headed upstream, the rain was coming down pretty good. As I walked around the corner I spotted the beacon, along with about 500 other possible beacons. After searching a few spots, I used the phone-a-friend option and learned that, yes Jon, you need to go to where you dreaded going. Let me say that if a cache could ever be considered a terrain rating of 10, today was the day. Everything was coated with ice, and I had to do a skyward belly flop off of an icy foothold just to get where I needed to be. One grip lost and I'm a dead man. After a few minutes, I had the cache in hand, and then I had to go back the way I came with frozen hands, soaken pants and jacket, and my heart in my throat. Thankfully I made it back to the car with no broken bones. Probably the most scared I've ever been in attempting a cache. Favorite point for sure!

Team MnMizzou found Colorado (Traditional Cache) at 4/10/2013

Log Date: 4/10/2013

State number 6 for us of caches placed by the one and only KB! The Mrs. had meetings in Denver. She's had them here before, and can never get away to bag this most important Colorado cache, so this time the mini and I got to tag along so we could get this one! Snow the day before (in April, so Minnesota isn't the only cursed state this spring) made finding this all the more interesting, but we were not going to be denied on this one! Signed the nice dry log and returned to downtown Denver victorious knowing that we could claim yet another state that KB has put his stamp of approval on! Thanks!

Found at 17:37 with jREST and King Boreas on our way home from MOGA. This is a very important cache for me as it is my 6th state finding a KB hide. Was sad to see it archived, but glad it is back in play. Thanks for bringing me to this cool park for another old hide.

We received some new logs in the inbox this weekend from three different cachers who were doing some pre-WNC together. Oddly enough I can relate to the logs: Laughing

BigChiefS4 found The Twelve Days of Caching (Traditional Cache) at 4/10/2013

Log Date: 4/10/2013
Doing some pre-caching with tonkaMN and Copaman before WNC tonight on
a chilly April day. We hit a bunch of caches in the Plymouth/New
Hope/Crystal area before heading south. There were some wild turkeys at
GZ today. For the most part, they ignored us but the tom came over and
wanted to pick a fight with us. tonkaMN tried to scare it away but it got
feisty and came at us. When we were walking back towards the car,the tom
got in between us and the road, forcing us to go around it. He blocked our
path again. Finally, after a few minutes of cat and mouse, he finally let us
pass.
SL TFTC!"

Went out pre-caching before the WNC with BigChiefS4 and TonkaMN in the
Plymouth/New Hope area. As we were walking back from this one, a turkey
kept wanting to pick a fight with us. I've never seen a turkey voluntarily
get that close to me. He came up to me, puffed himself up, and was clearly
trying to impress some nearby hens. He really wanted a piece of TonkaMN.
It gave us a good laugh! TFTC!"

Well, this was a fun one. I stopped by with BigChiefS4 and Copaman on a
pre-WNC cache run in the area. There was a pair of wild turkeys at GZ,
but they trotted off and we made a quick find. After signing the log, the
Tom decided that he had better chase us off to protect his turf. I tried
to scare him off and I thought we had seen the last of him as we were
walking back to the car, but he got some courage when he saw that we were
retreating and he got between us and where we needed to go. He acted like
he wanted to start a fight with me but wasn't sure how to do that. We
were able to escape without a fight after we told him that we would see
him at Thanksgiving. TNLNSL. TFTC."

They posted some nice pictures with their logs as well. Thanks guys for sharing the experience. It gave us a good laugh.

That turkey was quite brave going after us. We walked over to the convenience store across the street to grab a beverage after our confrontation and a customer in the store asked me what I had said to make that turkey so mad.

I was caching in Owatonna with Two of Hearts Saturday. We passed a couple geese in a pond and made are way to GZ a few feet away. The geese got very upset and kept honking at us while we searched. Then one very angry goose walked up few feet from us and kept honking. Two of Hearts then found out the reason when he uncovered a nest of eggs next to GZ. We left fast as we knew we were not wanted there. We logged a DNF and later found the CO disabled the hide after reading our logs. http://coord.info/GC1YV13

Both hens and toms have been known to attack decoys during the hunting season. Aggressive turkeys are not a surprise to me, especially since it is now mating season.

I forgot to tell you about my encounter with a coyote on the way out of the park! I was coming across the golf course and there he was staring at me. I froze and stared back. This went on for a time that seemed endless. I got my courage up and went toward him. Still he didn't move. You probably know the rest. Yes, it was a rubber coyote to keep the geese away. Good thing I didn't try to wrestle him to the ground, huh? Thanks again for the hide!

Gotta love this one (unless you are a packer fan):

Great puzzle! I love the ones where you learn something. I mean, I knew the Packers suck, everyone knows that, but I didn't know all the history behind it. TFTC

I thought that whole running joke was finally over a couple years back? It's a sock puppet account.

He still has his multi active, which tonkaMN and I found last year. We also had the luxury of meeting the CO. He's really a nice guy, but he quit caching when his health started declining.
