Dead of winter night caching, especially with a full moon, is one of my favorites. I wonder if anybody would be interested in attending an event specifically set up for hunting temp caches, at night. Preferably with a full moon and reflective snow on the ground. I've picked nights where there should be a full moon, although there is no guarantee that the weather will cooperate and provide clear skies and snow.

Location TBD at this point, but I'd try to find someplace where we can have a bonfire and maybe some shelter for socializing. Any suggestions?

I'm always up for night caching. Sounds like a good time.

Either feb 25th or 26th works for me. I work on the Jan dates.
We should bring the telescopes out too! Wink
Sound like fun. Shane.

I'll let twentyseven bring his telescope, mine's a bit bulky for such stuff Smile

As for dates I like the end of February (only because in January I'm medallion hunting).

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes. Any night is a possible. Of course you have about a 30% chance of there being a moon visible. In January and maybe a 40% chance in February.

Just remembered, full moon plus the middle of winter should equal very good visibility (assuming it's not cloudy).

If it turns out to be a bigger event we'd haveta locate a park that is clear on the closing times (none of that after sunset nonsense).

http://www.threeriversparkdistrict.org/reservations/resprocedure.cfm

rent a campsite, have 24 hour access

I previously received permission for temp caches over Memorial Weekend, which never happened.

I was also thinking of seeing if we could rent one of the 3 Rivers meeting rooms that has a fireplace. We'd probably get more attendance if we had something like that. A bonfire works fine for many, but I know more than a few people who should never have been born in MN.
