After giving it some thought I came up with some real goals (no staying ahead of BigChiefS4 really isn't a goal of mine). Here they are:
1. Have fun finding geocaches.
2. Find more caches with other cachers than I find alone.
3. Black out my D/T grid.
4. Find Alvin's Phone Line for find #3,000.
5. Find 100 caches a month for 12 consecutive months (on month #7 right now) to qualify for Minnstar's challenge.
6. Make it to the top 100 cachers in Minnesota (by number of finds).
7. Let BigChiefS4 catch up to me so that we can find #4,000 together. |

Sounds like a good idea. I'm sure once he hears about this that he will be even more motivated to catch up.

I can help you with goal #6.
You only need to get to the rank of 101 to be official. I'm still being listed on the Minnesota list but officially, I don't live there any more.

There's a chance I will be within a couple of finds of the lead by end of 2012. My summer routes take me past 24 or more cams, not all of which will be doable. |
I am currently 6th. My caching tour for 2012 starts in two weeks. By this time July I'll be officially 2nd in the world for sure and with any luck, I'll be first (need 20 to be first). |

| Our goal for 2012 is to get my son, Troutonthebrain, up to 1000 finds. Our plan is to get him to 1000, which in turn will put me at about 1500. Each time we find 500 caches will then put us at a 1000 cache milestone. When I find my 2000th cache though I want to have hidden my 200th hide like I did for my 1000th (100th hide was hidden right before.) |

Stalled but sitting at about 33% of counties remaining.
- Add 5 more state's OLDEST caches to my completed list.
Managed to get 3 new states and also made good on the controversial Indiana and Ohio.
- Add at least 7 more states cached in.
Attained 5. Seven is a goal that wasn't possible this year.
- Take care of that embarrasing 1 find in Manitoba and find several others.
Managed to find two more Manitoba caches so now sitting at 3.
- Take the world record in webcam finds, 6th place is just not acceptable.
Made it to fourth or third place this summer. I see the record holder also managed to score several more webcams in the last few months 
- Hold the 5th annual canoe-in geocaching event.

DONE! Finished my grid yesterday with a trip Rochester way.

I had a lot of help along the way. Emails, text while we were deep in the tunnel, and lots of hand holding! It was an awesome, if very long, tiring day.

I finished the year of caching, but at the same time I was trying to raise my D/T averages. I was able to complete both. Today, my wife and I cached around Chanhassen and Chaska and got the caches I needed to get the averages up to 2.  |
