MiGO is in cooperation with the University of Minnesota to conduct a survey of Michigan Geocachers. The data collected will assist us greatly in developing a "picture" of the Geocachers in Michigan and will allow us to more easily identify areas of improvement that we need to work on as a community and also areas where we are already strong.
Emails inviting you to participate have been sent out to every registered MiGO member over the age of 18. You will receive two more emails during the course of the survey to direct you to the online survey tools. Your patience with these emails is appreciated. The resulting data gathered will be very valuable. Your participation will help to improve the data compiled. Thank you in advance for your participation and continued support.

None of your personal information, including your email address, was released to a third party in order to conduct this survey. This is why all the emails will be from study@mi-geocaching.org. Do not hesitate to reply to that address with any questions or concerns. Thank you.

-MiGO Executive Committee and Board of Directors

It's only valuable to whomever is purchasing the resulting data. I remember the MNGCA filling out those surveys and even listening to a nice talk given by the woman researching geocaching.

Where's our resulting data? What if it was somehow useful for our organization to present to the DNR and say, "look at this... It's no less harmful than hiking, camping, and fishing, nevermind snowmobiling."

The survey was closed when I got to it this evening- but"perceived benefits" would have made me X out big time- I know enough about wording surveys and statistics to be aware of that one. come to think of it, wasn't there a survey like this done a couple of years ago by the U?

I'm on the executive board at MiGO....After requesting the results of your survey, and we were impressed with how it was done, we contacted Dr. Schneider and asked her to help us prepare a survey similar to the one done in Minnesota. We have several upcoming presentations with various parks and rec people including the DNR and we want to use the information obtained by the survey to give them a better understanding of who Geocachers are. We want to be a positive force in the parks. In the Detroit area (Oakland County Parks) the Michigan Geocaching Organization has been nominated for a Michigan Parks and Recreation Association Community Service Award. This was for the work done with Geocaching in the park. We're trying to keep this momentum going.
Dr. Schneider gave us the opportunity to modify some of the questions and add others and all the contact with Michigan Geocachers is done by us at MiGO. No emails or personal information will be given out. The answers will give us a demographic view of the people Geocaching here in Michigan and provide an insight to parks people about the people involved. Its not being done to take anything away from us or to curtail our hobby. This is an attempt to present ourselves as a large body of people who have a vested interest in the parks and lands of Michigan. And we feel it will be a benefit to us as an organization.

Thanks for the comments and explaination g-a. Congrats on the nomination!

When Schneider presented the MN survey to the group at a MnGCA meeting I was not of the opinion that she was out to label us as a negative force.

Maybe our results can be posted on the MnGCA site, if they don't suck up too much bandwidth? New challenge--try saying "geocachists" 5 times fast without accidentally saying one of George Carlin's 7 words--I tried it, and ended up with two, one of them twice.
