Shoot some ideas at me about a MEGA EVENT in the Northland...
Where? ....... the DECC.
When? ........ summer? fall? winter? ... Not Spring because of Easter
MnGCA support?
Costs?
Gifts bags?
Maybe a new power run? |

| While I would like to see a mega, I just don't see how it would be possible to pull off. You'd need one pretty big idea. Halloween Hoopla has yet to go mega and that's more or less the biggest and most frequented event in the state. Except for perhaps the puzzle event last year. |

We also need a lot of advertising, mailings, invitations, whatever it takes to get the word out.
I saw a MEGA is going on in Maine this fall. I wish I could get there. It sounds like more fun than any one person should be able to have in a lifetime. |

| I think you could get people to show up based on it being a mega. |

It's the chicken or the egg. You can't just list a mega. Either Groundspeak or a reviewer needs to intervene. |

That is a Groundspeak action. |

Our friends across the border in Wisconsin were able to pull it off in West Bend. You may want to have a chat with Earth Angel of Ecorangers to find out how much of your life it will consume before you decide to take it on however. I’m sure she would have some great advice to offer. I’m not suggesting copying what they have done, but rather learning from it.
Live music always draws people, the Minnesota Department of Tourism may be worth partnering with if you can sell the idea to them. Lots of caches and nice prizes definitely help. Family fun and competitions are big draws. Having local government, media and establishments on your side is a big help as well I would assume. Having a local population of people to draw from is the biggest problem I see if it’s held on the northland. With the right idea they will show, but another location in the state may be easier.
Personally, I wouldn’t focus on the Mega status to much. That status needs to be earned not declared. I’d focus on creating a really fun time and event for people to come and enjoy. If you do that right and put in the time and effort to make it great, not just really good, but great, you’ll get the mega. _________________ Ahhhhhhhh, the power of cheese! |

A very well done annual event. I don't think it started out as mega, did it? |

The only "Mega" I have been able to attend just started off as an event at a park close to where I grew up. By the end of the day, and the logbook was signed and counted, it was granted "mega" status.
It was quite the shindig, but would need a lot to draw enough people in up here to make it reach mega numbers.
I'd attend if I can. 'Nuf said. |
