I am not ranting about the inconvenience of performing cache maintenance. I am ranting about my fellow geocachers..
I went out to perform maintenance on one of my favorite caches today. It's a short two stage multicache down on the southern end of the county. Besides all 12 of the stage #1 game pieces having been all gathered up into a large pile and not put back where they belong, I picked up no less than three empty water bottles that weren't in the area this last spring. I am reluctant to believe it was anyone but cachers for the following reasons.. nothing about the cache was stolen, and the cache stages are off the beaten path that would not attract "off roaders". Hunting is not allowed in the area. Kids are not likely to play in the area.
We all bill ourselves at being CITO oriented and we all claim to be perfect in terms of leaving caches the way we found them. Clearly there are a few renegades in our midst.
I want people to find my caches. I just wonder why things can't be put back where they belong. |

I've seen some bill all as being CITO oriented which is crazy. |

My dad used to say that about his tools. I guess we teach our children but don't follow our own advice at times. |

Well when bflentje says he left his cache off the beaten path where kids are not likely to stumble on it, you know he means it. |

In Lebabnon Hills my statement would be a stretch. But at Byllesby? You could probably count the number of annual visitors using your fingers and toes. |

At least you perform maintenance on your cache There are a few out here that never get looked at after they have been placed. I have done maintenance on others caches more thatn they have done there own.
Some sit unatended for in my book way to long. There is one out here that has been disabled since may. (Flood) every thing is fine in the aera now I have even put 5 caches in the aera and still no checking on there cache ( what is with that )
Sorry just a nother rant. |

I appreciate that you are doing maintenance on your caches. Some people live within 2 miles of their caches and don't do maintenance. |

I regularly find trash, especially empty water bottles, left at caches. It's certainly geocachers doing it, as there is no other reason to be anywhere near these sites.
makes me sad. but then so does finding trash anywhere in the wild, which is too common. |
