I was recently asked about caching in the new Dakota County "Hills and Hollows" park. I asked my contact about at Dakota County about it and got some information back (which I do have permission to share):
| Quote: |
| Currently, we do not allow any caches in the new park land (Hills and Hollows). |
| Quote: |
| I didn't mention this in my earlier note, but geocaching WILL eventually be allowed here, once there are some trails and other basic features installed (which may be another year). |
I don't anticipate that he'll let me know when the park IS ready for caches, but if someone that is familiar with the area wants to ask me about it next year when it appears that the work in the park is complete then I'd be happy to follow up with him to see where it stands for geocaching. |

| That means the cache that is (was) on the property should be archived? I didn't check, perhaps it's already gone. But there was one on the property. |

DC is aware of the cache (he pointed it out to me in our discussions about the park). To date I haven't heard what they want to do with it.
After reading the logs on the cache, I'm not entirely sure what to think of it anyway. I have a feeling it will be archived over the winter anyway. |

I've updated the cache guidelines for Dakota County. I've also attached a kmz file of the park.

Yeah, and the reasoning for the name is pretty lame. In the paper it was said that when visiting the new park, a white tail is the most likely animal you'll find in the park. Huh, really? White tails are over the place. I've seen them within a 10th mile of downtown Minneapolis and in St. Paul parks. |

I've even saw whitetails near the VA. I'm sure that the name will draw poachers too. |

Ok, I'll bite. What does an "enabled" park look like, and how is it different than a "disabled" park? _________________ Hmm... |

Haha, no the CACHE Art of Walking has beeen adopted by MNpeguy and named Whitetail Woods and has been enabled. No, Whitetail Woods Regional park hasn't been enabled and won't be until 2013. |

The real question is why the cache gets to be active when clearly Dakota County has called it off limits until minimal development has taken place. |
