Hey all,
Still out in Washington, not caching much but checked my email. Anyone else heard from Jeff Wheeler? Apparently he's a photojournalist from the Star Tribune looking for cachers to tag along with and take some photos.
Here's the message I got
| Quote: |
Hi KCOGRN,
I'm a photographer with the Star Tribune and I'm interested in doing a
story on geocachers. I'm looking for someone to tag along with when
they go looking for a cache, sometime in the next couple of weeks, or so.
I'd also like to go with someone when they hide one.
Would you be interested, or do you know anyone else who might be?
Thanks,
Jeff Wheeler

| I might be able to do this... I am familiar with several of the Strib's reporters and photographers from the Mars event last year. Does anyone know of any reason that I might not want to contact this person... just being cautious before I volunteer... |

I'd just be extremely careful as to what you say.......
If you talk about weird things you see or heard of....they will "spin" it....
Such as walking up on a "squatter" in the middle of the night, or finding porn in a tree, or bushwacking etc....anything that makes it looks bad is good for press.....
Ask KB and Centris about there last article. |

| I don't think you need to be as worried with "jeff wheeler" as I believe he is a photographer vs. a writer. |

Ah, okay. That is easy enough for me, since I haven't seen anything truly "weird" in the six months I've been doing this (at least not yet).
I would just go over the basics, such as appropriate containers, good places to hide, GPS receivers, etc., also I will stress that it is a good way to get to know and enjoy area parks. If he asks me if I have seen anything strange, I'll just be honest and say no.
Ah, what the heck-- I'll send him an e-mail and see if he's interested in tagging along. |

| I got an e-mail back from Mr. Wheeler already. He's tied up with Twins playoff coverage, so it might be a few weeks before he can get to a story on geocaching. |

| Lotta response here. I sent an email back to him too and said I'd be happy to have him along on a cache or two. I'm sure there'll be tons of willing people. Good idea Kitch on the info we give em. |

Look.....Anybody can read the threads here....
I'm just saying that things can be printed even if you just said it "jokingly"...
Such as , "If heard that somebody once did........"
Then all of a sudden you got bad press. Then you get government involved. |
