Wouldn’t it be great to have another Mega event in MN? Since the Crowing of King Boreas was so fun, we think MN should have another one.
What is GeocoinFest?
In October 2006, cacher Avroair proposed the idea of a geocoin event that would bring together many of the geocoin collectors from all four corners of the earth. The event was designed to give geocachers an introduction to geocoins with workshops about designing your own coin, vendor tables for buying coins and trading tables for allowing collectors to meet and trade coins. Last year's event had over $1,000,000 worth of coins in the room! The event not only promotes geocoins but also stands as a great geocaching event.
The first Geocoinfest event was held in 2007 in Temecula, California. There were 430 attendees from 27 states and 8 countries. In 2008, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania hosted the event which grew to 650 attendees from 41 states and 9 countries.
GeocoinFest 2009
Is being held October 9 - 11th in Salt Lake City, Utah– http://coord.info/GC1JZ1X
There is also a separate website for the event - http://www.geocoinfestslc.com/
We had the opportunity to go last year and it was a lot of fun. Especially if you like geocoins!
Here is the link to the proposal done by Pittsburgh did for 2008 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bps2tLK59nc
A group of us think that the 2010 event should be held here. MN and it’s resident cachers have so much to offer: the great geographic area, the camaraderie and the abundance of caches.
We have started working on a proposal for the GeocoinFest selection committee. The proposals are due by the end of August and the location selected by the committee will be announced at Salt Lake City during GeocoinFest. When we are selected (have to think positive ), we will need lots of support from the geocaching community and are hoping some cachers will be able to volunteer and help out with the event. That stuff will be discussed later in this forum. For now we just wanted to get this topic out there and hear your response to the idea.
On second thought, we could use your help now. We are gathering photos of geocache sites that are recommend to visitors. If you have any pictures or know which geocaches shouldn’t be missed, please e-mail them to photo@geocoinfest2010.com. Thanks in advance for all your help!

The Minnesota Team has just sent off our proposal.
If you want a taste for what we offered, check out this video
If that’s not enough for you, you can check out these power points A to Z to Do or A to Z Caching
Or to see it all, check out the website.
The Ground Speak forum is at GEOCOINFEST 2010
Now we have to wait until October to see if we get it. |

BREAKING NEWS
Just announced at this year’s Geocoinfest that the Twin Cities will be the home for the 2010 Geocoinfest Mega Event!
I hope that everyone is as excited as we are. The event will bring cachers from all around the world to Minnesota.
I would like to thank the committee for their hard work so far. And for the support we have received from the MnGCA and others.

Wanted to say congrats to the winning bid by your group. We have met Nosnow and Shadow Friend along the way and are certain that they, and the other members of the group will do a great job.
I guess mark us down for two to attend (once the event is listed), as you stated in your proposal that you would bring people from Wisconsin in, well you are correct as we are from Milwaukee.
FYI the announcement is also up in the WGA forums
Best of Luck with the event |
