I'm simply curious how many here were involved in speech and/or debate in high school or college?

If you want to identify yourself in a post that's fine or you can just participate in the poll.

I was involved in both, although only for a short time with speech (my senior year in high school). Oddly enough one of our national debate topics was government-run health care, similar to what's being proposed now.

I competed in both, but mostly speech. I made it to section finals my senior year in the humorous category with a story by Dave Barry.

I wasn't involved in either, but IF I had to do over again...I think I would have enjoyed debate.

The only speech I had was therapy in elementary school. Once I learned to properly say my R's, I graduated from that program.

I was in Debate in grades 7-11 (the school didn't have a team my senior year).

No, never debated or did anything beyond the required speeches in school. But I do actively spar about politics and environmental issues with some of my weanie friends at work. I know just enough to look like an idiot.. yeah, just like in these here forums.

Speech only. I wouldn't have done it except the coach asked me and I couldn't think of a reason to say no. My event was extemporaneous speaking. I was never interested in debate.

I wasn't involved in a group or a club, but Saint Mary's, where I just finished my degree, requires formal presentations in almost all of their classes.

I was in speech for 3 years and was captain of the Lakevillle South Speech team my senior year. I was in Original Oratory. My best speech, which got me 4th in sections, was about "Truthiness" and our society's unwillingness to accept the truth.

Maybe we could have an event where we have some people recite their speeches from their past years.... I think that I have safely stored all mine somewhere I will never remember.

I know that after reading the topic a little, I might be interested in hearing a couple.

I had some debate during speech.
