I'm always amazed at how young of an age our first memories are, what is your oldest memory?

I remember being a youngster pushing my toy truck along the driveway. I forgot to look up and rammed full speed right into the bumper of a car. Ouch. I bet I was no older than 5 or 6. I have memories earlier than that but nothing stands out as significant.

I remember Braking my arm when I was 3 or 4. The cat jumped over the railling in our up stairs and landed on all fours so why I could not was beyond me. I landed on my right arm. ( brother was suposed to be watching me go figure )

I can also remember spending lots of time on the bridge over the Credit river ( the creek that runs through Savage ) in my parents back yard. I just loved the sound of the water flowing by. If you have found Mdarkarrows cache ( Garrows house ) you have seen the creek and maybe even the bridge in question.

AH the time of our youth.
Thank you for bringing me down memory lane. I needed that today.

I remember the shots fired by the armed unit along the streets of downtown Faribault during the pet parade at the age of 2. What a first memory!

Age 2 years: My mother baking & setting aside a small pile of flour for me to run my little race car in. The tracks it made in the flour were cool!

Age 3 years: Our Christmas tree's needles turned brown & fell off just before Christmas. (A spruce) Dad had to scramble to find a tree seller that still had any stock left. He found a red pine a couple of towns over.

Age 4 years: Walking with my mom in the snow & discussing what it was like to go to school. She had quit teaching to get married & have a family.

My friends & family get rather annoyed with me as I forget very little & can recall details of times, dates, places, events, etc … decades later; long after their memories of such have faded. And yes, I can usually find someone else who also remembers or I am able to dig up collaborating evidence to prove I am not making it all up. (There in lies the rub & source of aggravation. Grin)

Age 3: I remember my aunt coming to visit from California.

Age 4: My great-grandmother having a fatal heart attack.

I remember my Danish grandmother visiting when we lived in New Hampshire; I must have been 4 or so. I have never been a morning person. As I was descending the staircase she sang the theme song from the Miss America pagent.

I can remeber the first moon landing and watching it on tv in cali.

I would have to say the earliest recollection I have is when I was about 3 on my B-day ma & pa got one of them wooden clocks (with the plastic hands that were set by a knob in the center on the front), that you wound up that played "Hickory-Dickory Dock" I played with that thing till I wore it out.

On a different note when my nephew was about 4 I had gotten him one of those "Bumble balls" And I had thrown a pack of "AA" batteries in the package before wraping it. He opened it up and was happy to see the batteries. He yelled "Batteries", and we still give him crap about this and he is now 17. You just had to be there to appreciate they way he said it.

I remember a about age 4 watching a billboard being installed from the window of the apartment that we lived in downtown St Paul.
I was on a steam radiator and slipped and burned myself. Still have the scar.
I wonder if that is why I remember. A souvenir so to speak.

Ah memories. Are there any psychologists out there? This was one of my favorite topics in my psychology classes in college. May of our "memories" may not be memories at all, but rather reconstructions based on what we have seen in videos and pictures or what we have been told. I believe that it is generally agreed among psychologists that the human brain cannot physically remember things from before the age of 3. This is not to say there arent exceptions, but the brain just hasn't developed enough neural connections. I think of the early memories I have and know that I have been told stories about them or seen videos that have affected my "memory".
