I received the official GEOCAC Benchmark yesterday in the mail and have sent it off to the MN State Geodetic Advisor whom I've been working with to get this project underway in Minnesota. We're hoping to get the mark in the ground before the ground freezes. I'll have a short list of project sites for mark placement soon.

The GEOCAC project's goal is to get a benchmark set in each state (see photos below). These benchmarks would be listed in the NGS register and would be set to commemorate the cooperation of the NGS and Geocachers. We currently have Missouri, Kansas, New Mexico, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Arizona, Alaska and Hawaii already in the works.

All of funding for the MN GEOCAC benchmark has so far come out of my pocket to get this project moving forward. Any donations in the form of Geocaching currency (Geocoins) would be greatly appreciated to help offset some of the time and costs.

Any news relating to the status of the Minnesota GEOCAC project? It looks like Wisconsin has set theirs already.

We received an email from Passing Wind about this. He believes this is now in place. This seems like a great project.

It appears the Minnesota GEOCAC
(Geocaching) benchmark is now in the ground. I started this with the
help and coordination of GEO*Trailblazer 1 who is coordinating the
placement of a GEOCAC in all states. With my own time and finances I
was able to purchase the mark and coordinate the placement of the mark
with the help of both Federal and State officials. After over a year
it appears to have happened.

The special edition geocaching benchmark is set in concrete near the Paul Bunyan
Rest Area just south of Brainerd, MN.

This is the estimated coordinates: N46 15.720, W94 19.074

I found it it yesterday afternoon. It looks great, definitely worth a look. I got some pictures, but I won't have them available anytime soon since they're on a single use camera.

I probably would have found it a couple of weeks ago, but my dad doesn't like refuses to stop anywhere when we're driving somewhere. Rolling Eyes

What's that?

Is that one of those cameras where you can only use the memory card once? Smile

Arrow example

I won't have the pictures until I use all of the pictures and get it developed. Which will happen when I get back from camp the beginning of August.

I finally got my camera developed and the picture uploaded.

It can be found in my log at the near by cache.
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=5f1c3a5c-b5db-4268-93d7-8e325cca1823

Too bad the cache owner hasn't logged on for a almost a year, otherwise he might have added it too the cache page.
