I saw that there was a new 3.10 update available for the Garmin Oregons.
It added a new waypoint averaging function and some other changes described here. One being, Improved GPS performance at slow speeds in tree cover.
After I updated my Oregon, I had to go into the menu configuration to enable the new waypoint averaging application for the button to show up in the menus.
While at their site I also noticed that they have announced a new GPSr using the touchscreen interface called Dakota. It looks to be similar to the Oregon 300 in features in a smaller and lighter format but with lower resolution screen.

| Thanks for posting that. It took some effort, but I finally figured out how to actually make it work. |

| Those upgrades have been available for awhile with beta upgrades they have just got around to releasing it non-beta. In fact if you are interested they have already released another beta upgrade version 3.12. |

Might be coincidence or perhaps I was just imagining things but I downloaded this update yesterday and seemed to have a lot less bounce with the signal under tree cover today. |

| Ok, so the cachers in the national forums are useless, so I will see if going local will help. I'm trying to customize my startup screen with the new upgrade, but I can't get it to display. Have any of you had success with this yet? I have found an Oregon FAQ that tells what to do, but I keep getting a message when I reconnect my unit that says files didn't transfer correctly. Any help? |

There is a file /Garmin/startup.txt which you can create/edit, just add in your information and it should show. |

| You should not have to transfer any file. Open up the GPS and look for that file and edit. I had done it to my 400t when I had it. |

I guess transfer wasn't the right word. Is there any special formatting I need in the file? This is what it looks like:
Why won't this show up? |
