I just figured that I would post this here as I know that people are planning trips to do the State Park Challenge:

PARK CLOSED MONDAYS - THURSDAYS, THROUGH MID-AUGUST!
Grand Portage State Park will only be open on weekends until mid-August, while work continues on site preparation for a new 5,800 square foot visitor center.
The park will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, but parking will be limited and the gift shop will remain closed for the rest of the summer.
This is a major 'facelift' for the park that will include interpretive exhibits, a new gift shop, and highway rest area. Construction will conclude June 2010.

Does anyone know if this closure directly affects the cache in the park, or are you still able to access the cache? This seriously affects some plans and is a huge pain.

And you can't cheat either since the border patrol watches this park like a hawk.

From what they said on the news, the park is completely closed, which was a shock to me and that is why I wanted this to be known. Closing the park might cause problems for many peoples plans.

I'd still sneak in. Just park at the gas station and walk down. If you get stopped by the border patrol, play dumb. Cool

The cache isn't deep into the park anyway, so it would be a quick in-n-out.

i'd agree with NeoAddict. the cache takes less than 1/2 hr., and most of that's the walk time. i doubt anyone will say a thing. they have known about this construction project 4 awhile, and the border crossing people have more important things 2 worry about than people enjoying a state park. Peace

Grand Portage State Park will be closed Monday-Thursday until Monday August 17th.

You can still access the park Friday-Sunday during this period of time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
