Say this on a different forum and thought I'd share. Looks pretty interesting. _________________ Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. |

Not a good price point at 5 bills. _________________ Remember One does not need the MNGCA to geocache, but the MNGCA does need members to survive. |

"Increased capacity for 200 routes, 2000 waypoints, and 5000 geocaches"
"An “enhanced sunlight-readable touchscreen”, one of the common complaints about the current Oregon series. Garmin claims the screen visibility and touch sensitivity have been improved."
Looks like they improved on two of the big issues for many people. _________________ "There is a pleasure in the pathless woods..." - Lord Byron |

Thjere's no reason there can't be an unlimited number of routes / waypoints / Geocaches. If you have removeable storage, there's no reason to have a physical limit. If it's something in the OS, or a processor limit thing, time to look at fixing those issues.
Kind of like the map segment limit on the Vista I've got. 2025? wtf. There's no reason there can't be more per map database. Besides, the unit only loads the segment it needs when it needs it, and doesn't (to my knowledge) pre-load segments, so it shouldn't be an issue unless it was a software thing. |

I'm guessing that the limit is that the units can't write to the removable storage without being hooked up to the USB cable. I don't know about the new units (Oregons and such), but any older units (I hate to call a 76 or 60 an "older unit") doesn't write to the card.
I'm guessing the limitation isn't software - it's hardware, more specifically that the batteries onboard don't supply the necessary voltages required to write to the card. _________________ Hmm... |

| That'd be an interesting thing to hear from a Garmin Engineer about.. I think the batter technology is there to make these units do and be more than they are. |

| True, but at the same time I'm sure they don't want to pack every single thing into one unit, keep adding a little here, a little there and you'll keep people coming back for more... you know?? |

There is that, but at the same time, There's always enhancements to sreens and we'll see more sensitive antennas, and there's other functionality to be gained in the future. I just don't see a need for some artificial limit ot how much data a unit can hold or store.
Think about your PC for a second - Would you be happy if you could only have a 60Gb hard drive, and a limit of how many files you could store? Or that your PC doesn't have enough power to access that data in a read/write capacity? I have the same view about my handheld electronics. |

It's not an artificial limit though... Memory is a limited commodity, same as hard drive space. The more you pay, the more you get.
I personally don't see the need for more than 2000 waypoints. Geocaches aren't something you can load once and then search - they're always changing, getting disabled, moved, etc. _________________ Hmm... |

Does anyone know when this is coming out? I did not see a release date. I am seriously thinking about purchasing one. _________________ ~~ I was told all I needed was a GPS. I wanted everything else. ~~ |
