St. John's, in Collegeville, is looking for volunteers to help out with the maple syrup making process. Tomorrow, March 10th, they'll be tapping trees, hanging collection bags, setting out barrels in the woods. It starts at 9:30. They hope to be done by noon but, if not, will resume at 1. Volunteers also welcome later in the season. You can sign up to be on a mailing list. The volunteer information web page has a map and directions. More details on tomorrow's activities can be found in a PDF file linked from the top of the page.
The meeting place mentioned for rides to the sugar shack, if you don't want to chance driving the field road, is in the far corner of the U-shaped parking lot in front of 30 and 30A in this map. |

This year they'll be tapping the maple trees at St. John's Saturday, March 1. Starting shortly after 9:30 and maybe done by noon. They're not offering rides out to the sugar shack this year.
They are also looking for volunteers any weekday from Saturday until mid-April, from 2-4 p.m. They're hoping to have someone out there hauling sap every day during the season.
Directions and updates on the Saint John's Maple Syrup web page.
I'll see if I can figure out the coordinates of the sugar shack, for the adventurous. |

Tapping tomorrow, Saturday, March 14, from 9:30 a.m. to noonish.
If you want a ride to the sugar shack, park in Science Lot II. The link above still works, but they've renumbered the buildings in the map. Meet 9 a.m. at far end of parking lot in front of 31 and 31A.
Volunteers welcome during the rest of the season, too, especially Sundays. More information at the maple syrup volunteer update. |

My mistake. It's Science Lot 1, not Science Lot 2.
Science Lot #1, parking coordinates: N45°34.892 W094°23.445
If they say to meet up at the new Science building, you would meet at:
N45°34.880 W094°23.412
Coordinates for the sugar shack: N45°34.838 W094°22.520
Sap was collected this afternoon. There will be cooking Saturday, time TBA. Last collection of sap probably Monday afternoon, 1:30-3:30. There might be sap collecting Saturday; the "boss" will decide after he sees how much was collected today and what the weather is like. Volunteers welcome, especially since the college students are gone for Easter break. |
