I am looking for help with my palm tungsten W and windows Vista, they aren't getting along. We have a new laptop w/ vista installed and it won't recognize my old cellphone I am using as a paperless pda. I have downloaded the most recent palm desktop ACCESS which does not mention Vista in the compatibility list. My Garmin Vista HCx works great but I don't want to spend $100 + on a new pda. Can I fix this or should I spring for a new Oregon with my coupon.

Thanks for any help.

I was using GSAK 7.0 and I got tired of the Nag Screen, and I was hoping not to pay for the upgrade.

I have GSAK 7 & cachmate, I tried the link to palm 4.xx but I have a newer version installed already, when I export the PDB file I get an abnormal program termination file runtime error.

I think I found a palm Z22 on craiglist for $25, that seems like the way to go. A little more current and supported by palm for Vista. I should be able to get Vista to be happy. Thanks for the help.

we found that with the z22 we had issues of not being able to see the screen in bright light... the backlight on the tungsten w made things much easier for us to use. we uninstall all palm software from our vista machine and installed the palm desktop and hotsync from the above listed link and have had no problems with it.

Thanks, I didn't uninstall the old, I'll try that. We are running Vista home premium but that should be the same. We'll see.

I have Vista, GSAK and my T3 working together, but one trick I've used is to avoid the Palm install routine. I just have GSAK write the PDB file directly to my SD card, then have Cachemate rescan the card. That works fine and avoids bugs in the install program.

How do I load the gsak export file to the palm card, and then how do I get cachmate to rescan the card for the info? Have zire71, and new Vista machine, and they don't want to hotsync the cachmate files.

In GSAK:
File > Export > Cachemate PDB file
Uncheck the "Install to palm after conversion" box
Give the path to your SD card on the "PDBfile to create" box

Reinserting the SD card to your palm should automatically trigger a rescan, if not, there is a "Rescan card" menu option in Cachemate
