Hi all,
I'm looking to hook up with an experienced ifinder user to ask a few questions. I just picked up a basic ifinder and would like info on SD cards, Mapcreate and other software. Never tried this geocaching but it sounds interesting.
Thanks for your help. |

Either there are no ifinder users here or I scared you all off with the "hook up" verbage. I'm not looking for a meaningfull relationship here , just some help with my new ifinder. I've used a few GPS units and finally bought my own when I found my ifinder on clearance at Wal-Mart for $85. At that price I'm very happy with the unit. It took a while to figure out some things that were more intuitive on the Garmin or Magellan GPS's, but I've managed to get a pretty good handle on the basics. I'd like more info about using a memory card with the ifinder. I'd like to input waypoints and routes on my pc, load them to the SD card and you know the rest. I'm looking for someone who has used Mapcreate or Lowrance's free utility to enter waypoints and routes to a SD card. Does anyone here have experience with this?
Thanks again, hope I didn't scare anybody off |

There was a cat on the GPSBabel list that claimed to have deciphered the Lowrance SD/MMC format and apparently wrote a backend for it, but he seems to have disappeared.
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=2825621&forum_id=12070
There was a report from some dude that Mapcreate took one of the CSV strains we support, but when I tried to follow up with that (to document which one, etc.) he, too, never responded. So I really don't know of tools to get points in and out of Lowrance-land, but I'd probably start my search at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ifinder_gps/messages
(If you want to pursue a GPSBabel approach, please email me on those lists instead of following up here as I don't check this list regularly.) |
