Discover Finland, geocaching style!
There’s a little Finnish treasure trove hidden somewhere in Duluth, and two local Finnish-American geocachers invite everyone to get out and look for it.
Arne and Ivy Vainio and their 9-year-old son, Jacob, hid a cache of Finnish-themed trinkets on June 9 to generate a little more buzz about the upcoming FinnFest celebration, coming to Duluth in late July. The Vainios are avid geocachers and FinnFest organizing committee members.
Geocaching participants use global positioning system units to go from point to point, seeking hidden caches along the route. The Vainios’ cache includes a Finnish lapel pin, a Finnish button, and some geocache “swag” for the finders.

The Vainio family said they plan to hide more Finnish-themed caches as FinnFest approaches. |
