Hopefully, I'm in the right part of the forum for this...as it does pertain to GPSs. I've been watching "the Lost World", the Jurassic Park 2nd movie for the umteenth time due to my son's obsession with dinosaurs. I noticed that they were carrying a Magellan GPS when they get on the island...The movie came out in 1997...so what's the deal? And yes, I know it is not based on a true story  . |

| But, how exactly were they to be getting their signal, when the unscrambling occured in May, 2000? |

According to wikipedia, selective availability typically added errors of about 32 ft. Aside from the obvious Magellan joke, this is close enough for hiking and dinosaur hunting and such. |

No they used a magellan because the wanted to find the boy and not get "lost"
on anothe note if the people on Lost had a magellan they would nt be LOst. |

I think I saw claimed (by the GPS) accuracies of around 20' at best, although 30' was a little more average. I still remember where I was when I realized SA had been turned off....

yes and I LOVE my ((( 3 ))) Magellans 2-500's and a 300 my first still works great and gets me to GZ every time.
It is just that some of you guys can cammo a cache better than others. (ie Bart) |

So, what you're saying is, it takes your 3 Magellans for every 1 Garmin to find GZ for a cache? My hides aren't that great. |
