Just got news tonight..... Turns out the guy who had Thing2's Tbug Beastly Wild Thing was one of the Marines who was killed in action on Sept 23rd in Iraq. Crying or Very sad

I got an email from his brother because he was going through his things and found the Tbug with his geocaching stuff and wanted to know what to do with it.
Gee... what do you say to somebody who contacts you with news like that??
Soooooooo depressing. Sad

I emailed him my condolences, but it hardly seems enough. Strange how the war comes in a grabs you by the heart in the most unexpected ways. I guess it touches everyone's life in some way...

wow, talk about your strange coincidences... bummer news, and I'd have no idea what to say.

Life has a strange way of working out itself, not just in wars, but they do have impacts on many people as well.

One thing that we all can say is "Thank you."

To date I've lost three acquaintances in either one of the two sandboxes. Whether or not you support the war or not is not this issue really. Our soldiers are not political they serve.

For those that give up their life, they do so unwillingly believe me. None of our soldiers, sailors, airmen or marines are taught to willingly give up their life to the enemy. But they do willingly give up their life for their fellow servicemembers or for their beliefs in what they are doing. Most of the service members are doing a job they believe in. I didn't say cause but job. As an individual that spent 22 years serving, I can tell you that what we do it to preserve our rights. Those rights of our nation to openly agree or disagree and the ability to openly say so.

As far as this individual goes. Even spending a little time talking to his brother about him can help the family. Believe me you can never really ease the pain the family is feeling. However, by talking to him even about geocaching can help him understand his brother a little bit better.

As far as the bug goes. I would archive it and put a byline on it and dedicate it to his memory.

Good ideas! My heart goes out to this servicemember and all of the soldiers out there. I too have served 8+ years and know some of the Marines and Army personel overseas.

I have a similar story to this. However without the tragic end.

I had been wondering where my TB "Noah's Ark" (reference TBD12A), had gone since December. I couple of weeks ago I got an email from Timbrewlf, from the Rochester area. He said that he grabbed my bug before he went over to Iraq. He is currently serving as a guard over at the Abu Ghurayb prison. He was just letting me know that he had my bug and would try to get it put in a cache as soon as he could. I replied to him that it was no big hurry. I wished him luck and hoped that him and all of his fellow soldiers make it back unharmed. (By the way, this was just before we started hearing about all of the problems with way the prisoners were being treated over there). I am hoping that he was not involved in any of that.

I hope he emails me soon to give me an update on how things are going over there.
