USGS Map Locator and Downloader
If you click on the Map Locator and Downloader you get a google map. You can then zoom into the area you're interested in and download a PDF file of several different scale maps, including the 7.5 minute series. Sometimes I get a redirect error, in which case I reload and stop the page loading once I see the map.
Just in case you ever want to go old-school. |

I like to use GPSVisualizer and plot the GPXs on topo. It was especially useful for doing some of the excellent caches by eagleyes North of Ely (Bass Lake and Dry Lake). _________________ Sad state of affairs. |

I remember you mentioning that program before and I meant to check it out, but haven't yet. I'll have to do that soon, it sounds interesting. |

Does the USGS one require a download? GPSVisualizer doesn't. _________________ Sad state of affairs. |

That's all it is, a PDF download. Someone mentioned you could get tif files too, but I haven't looked for them. |

SB that was a pretty cool trick. I just downloaded a gps file into gpsvisualizer, and looked at the map. I have some routes in that particular file and it downloaded that too. Fun to look at and I think that may come in handy on some upcoming trips. Thanks for the heads up, will have to keep this one in mind. _________________ round n' round we go! |
