GSAK 7 has some cool features with regards to Macros. One allows you to make a google maps layout of the caches you have in your current view..and it runs locally so its much faster than Geocaching.com, another is it can make stats for your profile page (or anywhere you want to put it) that look very nice..check out mine:

I did my cache stats the other day too. I put them on my profile page.
Couple of questions on yours...
How did you get numbers to show in the map?
How did you modify the stats to show closest, furthest, oldest?
The stats macro is cool, but the mapping macro you showed me last week is the BEST!!! Nice way to get a visual without all the clutter of 'found' caches. Well worth the upgrade price (for me)! |

| The way you see the stats is the way GSAK generated them for me, I didn't modify anything. If you are using the GSAK macro, try getting the latest copy. |

I looked at your stats page and it says:
Stats generated by FindStatGen2 V1.03 by rutson
Mine says:
Stats generated by FindStatGen2 V2.10 by rutson
so go to the page I included above and get V2.1 |

Downloaded the latest macro (for the version of GSAK that I'm running). Replaced my profile page with the new data.
Did you get your hands on v7.10 and run the latest macro (*.gsk)?
My stats now have the numbers in the states and the oldest, etc. at the bottom. Woo hoo! Now if I can just figure out why it has my 400 and 500 milestones wrong. I know I logged them carefully. Hmmm....
Thanks for your help!! |

Hey cstjohn,
When is your tech event?
These would be good things to show off there.
I have a couple of laptops that could be used for the event.

As someone that worked very hard for several years on a freeware graphics program (early POV-Ray, a totally free ray tracer that runs on everything from a PC to a Cray, much more complicated than something like GSAK, yet totally free), I sure would love to see a freeware or GNU/Source Forge version of GSAK developed. I have a hate/love relationship with GSAK. As far as I've been able to find, it is the most capable program available for handling gsx files, but frankly, it sucks!
Version 7 even has the audicity to title the nag screen (yes, I am NOT a registered user) "The GSAK wife... nag, nag, nag". Women... how do you like that?
The program has an atrocious interface, IMHO, with far too many buttons to click and options to set. But what it does well, it does quite well. I guess that's why I both love it and hate it. But I will NOT pay a nagware programmer. I could put up with its iosyncrisies if it were freeware, but to pay for something like that just grates on my nerves.
Off of soapbox. Thanks ahead of time for letting me vent. _________________ Alcohol & calculus don't mix. Don't drink & deriv |

Personally I'd love to see an open source project that would work similarly to GSAK. At least as far as being a database that can handle archiving of cache pages for personal records. The UI could use some work, yes.
Also, It'd be great to have an all encompassing program to handle a variety of waypoints, not just limited to geocaching, in a database format. I know GSAK can do thise in a limited fashion, but it's not quite as good at it as easygps is. |

Hey, did we lose the ability to simply drag a zip or GSK file into the GSAK database window and have it add those caches?
That was an awfully convenient feature... |

Hey sir_zman - how do you get to the Google maps layout in the new version of GSAK?
Ran the stats macro - neat, but it got lots of stuff wrong (like all the caches were found in one day...), have to play with it a bit. |
