Does anyone know if placing a cache on state land is allowed? I'm not talking about state parks, or state forests, or WMA's, or anything like that. I'm talking about the places where there are signs simply saying "State Land". They're open for public hunting, I know that for a fact.
Thanks all. |

I am not aware of any policies in place (for or against geocaching) with regards to state owned/managed land except DNR land and rest stops. _________________ Hmm... |

Sorry, no I don't know... It would depend on which state agency is responsible for that land and who the contact is within that agency for that land.
The state has a lot of employees... Good luck. _________________ Hmm... |

| Ok, thanks. I'll have to see what I can find. It doesn't seem to me like it would be a problem to put something there. |

Before many of the policies came into effect- every time I tried to get permission on anything connected with the state they would always say contact the local person in charge of the land- some one is always in charge- I would start wtih the DNR head quarters- always have found them helpful. Post your findings for us all. _________________ LIFE IS GOOD;CABIN LIFE IS GREAT |

scratch that, it Is a state forest. I wasn't sure because the signs simply say "state land". I didn't think to double check the map of state forests before posting.
As far as I can tell, there are no restrictions on geocaching in state forests.
some of you probably know about state forests for sure.
Thanks for the input! |

Look at the Cache Guidelines page, under DNR (about 2/3 of the way down). There is a page about state forests. I think you'll be happy.
Thanks for following up! _________________ Hmm... |
