|
|
I just realized Garmin recently put out a firmware upgrade for my GPS (76csx, but probably others as well) - their "autonotify" feature doesn't seem to work, so I thought I'd pass this on.
One thing it does is update daylight savings time dates - I also realized my GPS clock was wrong, although that doesn't explain any of my recent DNFs (positioning was fine).
Anyway, here are the changes to this recent version, one neat thing - it seems to allow more display fields on map pages
Version 3.10 to 3.20:
1. Updated daylight saving time dates.
2. Add capability for 2 wide data fields on map, compass, and highway pages.
3. Add capability for 1 wide data field on map page.
4. Added data card information page.
5. Add selectable alarms for proximity waypoints and custom POI.
6. Improve labeling and scanning of custom POI on the map page.
7. Address issue where custom POI finder would erroneously produce no results.
8. Add capability to see vertical profile of an autoroute using DEM topo data.
9. Fixed issue with incorrect dates showing when editing the date field for Sun & Moon page and Hunt & Fish page.
10. Fix issue where invalid find menu options could show when using the Auto Order feature.
11. Fix issue with the Swiss grid providing incorrect coordinates.
12. Fix issue where route names would be converted to upper case during editing.
13. Update data card driver to support SD version 2 cards.
14. Corrected problem with NMEA input that could corrupt Waypoint names in WPL sentences. |

One thing I noticed with my 76CSx over the Geko 201 is that the Geko would automatically update the nearest waypoints list as I drove. As I got closer to a cache it would bump it up the list. The 76 does not appear to do that, which means I need to go to find/geocaches each time I want to update the list. _________________ Hmm... |

Yes, that's one of the first differences I noticed when I upgraded from a Foretrex 101 to the 60Cx. I kinda of liked the way it keeps the nearest waypoint up to date. _________________ Tupperware doesn't belong in the kitchen! |

You might want to go in and check some of your settings. My 76Cx works just fine by adjusting the waypoints. _________________ Airborne All the Way! |

Hmm, I looked before but couldn't find any option for that. I'll check again! _________________ Tupperware doesn't belong in the kitchen! |

Where is the setting on that - I haven't noticed an automatic update.
I did notice though, that the Geocache and Waypoint options shift positions on the Find screen! I suppose they do this based on the last one chosen, or maybe frequency of use - it was pretty unnerving at first... |

I'm sure you'll let me know what it is when you find it. _________________ Hmm... |

Now that's strange. Mine has never done that. _________________ Tupperware doesn't belong in the kitchen! |

I just checked - whatever you used last ends up in the upper left corner of the find screen, and the rest shift to the right.
I don't see anything that allows a real-time sort of nearest caches though, maybe this was a feature that was dropped. Hey, but hitting Find twice does the same thing, how about that? |

Mine does that too. I believe I remember seeing an option about that. It reorders them by the order that you last used them I think. _________________ Hmm... |

Yes, I figured that out. You have "auto ordering" on. Press "Find" and then "Menu" and make sure you are using "Default Order"

Yes, I like the recent find feature. But there are no other options under "Find" and I looked quick through the main menu and couldn't find it. I tried opening the manual online but it crashed Firefox. I'll try again. _________________ Tupperware doesn't belong in the kitchen! |

I checked the 60Cx and the 76Cx manual and can't find that option anywhere. _________________ Tupperware doesn't belong in the kitchen! |

Does yours adjust the order of the waypoints on the list, or the bearing/distance to the waypoints?
I'm referring to the fact that it doesn't reorder the list (just to clarify). _________________ Hmm... |

I'll have to check it on the drive down. But as I recall if I'm in the find waypoint menu and am driving it continues to sort the list based upon distance to closest. _________________ Airborne All the Way! |
