Please let me know via PM or email if you are interested in being part of a 2007 geocoin committee. You don't need to be a member to participate. If you have questions, please post them here or PM/email myself or the board.

We are soliciting volunteers through March 11th.

Code:

        i. The committee may want to come up with multiple designs for
           presenting to the MnGCA Board
    b. Present design(s) for MnGCA Board selection
        i.  The top three designs will be advanced to a member vote at the
            Spring Event.
    c. Select a manufacturer for the geocoins
    d. Develop procedures for selling and distributing the geocoins

2. MnGCA GeoCoin Committee Setup
    a. Must include at least 3 MnGCA members

        following exceptions
       i. A committee chairperson will be implemented
ii. Chairperson cannot be a current MnGCA Board member

ii. The MnGCA board would prefer to begin distribution of the new
geocoin at or before the Fall 2007 General Membership Meeting

    b. The geocoin may or may not include the Geocaching.com logo
       i. Committee must determine legality of use
    c. The geocoin may have a unique design from the previous MnGCA
        geocoin
       i. Partial reuse of previous design would be a cost savings
    d. The geocoin must be geocaching.com trackable
    e. The MnGCA Board is seeking a retail price of no more than $10.00
    f. The MnGCA Board is seeking the lowest possible price while meeting

How many of these new coins are going to be made? And how can a cacher get his/her hands on one?

The questions I see have no answer. Pear Head asked for a Comm. to be formed. All the answers to the questions will be answered by what the Comm. comes up with. There is no how many, or when they will be released. There has been no thought as to what they will even look like.

I just saw some very specific points in the Design Criteria.
Especially pertaining to individual coin cost.
Individual coin costs vary with quantities ordered.
(i.e. fixed die costs are distributed over the quantity of coins)
So if the die costs are $100 - $150 and you order 100 coins the die costs per coin are $1 - $1.50. If you are talking about 1000 coins the die costs per coin are $ .1 to $ .15. A considerable difference when there is a requirement for a $2.00 profit per coin.

Quantities also affect profit per coin in the classic supply and demand scenario. If fewer coins are made the price per coin remains higher. This determines if the $2.00 profit per coin is an attainable goal.

And the biggest reason I was concerned about coin quantities is, to try to determine the scope of work, pertaining to the requirement that the MnGCA Board prefers that the committee handle the sales and distribution. Once again if you only need to sell 100 coins they will sell allot quicker than 1000.

I was just looking for some rough order of magnitude of what the board was thinking to get some idea of what I was getting into if I volunteer and I am selected to this committee.

100-250 coins?
250-500 coins?
500-1000 coins?
1000+ coins?

Thanks,
merkman

Good enough for me at this point.

I guess my understanding of the Comm.'s Is to gather all the info on the subject and make decisions from there. You have some good questions. But the Comm. would be the place to answer them. As far as quanity or how much work your in for? What would be the best deal for how many? And if you want to be on the Comm. What are you willing to do? Again something the Comm. would look into. The Board sets up guide lines. Everything else is up to the Comm. JMHO

They sold over 1000 pre-sale last time, no?

Please don't use the "No GPSr needed - follow the tracks" or whatever. People think that's a clever log.

Is there a random coin quote generator, much like the random log generator everyone speaks of? Laughing

On second thought that might not work.

Just a reminder that we're still looking for volunteers for the coin committee. You don't need to be a member to participate.

The cutoff for volunteering is March 11th.

I might be interested if it doesn't involve many trips to meet. I mean if most of it can be done via computer. I will hopefully have a bit more time now that I won't be making a trip to the cities every weekend anymore.

We only met in person once, I think, to design the last coin. All other work was done online.
