Hi all,
I've enabled avatars! Several have asked for them over the past year but because of the setup at the old provider I couldn't get it to work. As a sort of thank-you for being so understaiding over the past couple of weeks (and the next few) I took a moment to make it work. Wow was that easy on this new provider's server!!
What is an avatar you ask? Look over to the left of this post. See the picture? That's my test avatar. I hope to come up with a better one soon.
The limits for avatars is 80x80 pixels in screen size and 10240 bytes (10 kb) in file size. We're going to try real small ones in order to keep the back-ups smaller. To upload your avatar go to your profile and find the avatar section. Have fun!!
(and please remember the family-friendly aspect of our little community)

But yes you have to change the one you have. That's not a towle booth.
Ask me, I'll tell you.

I can't seem to get an image under 13Kb. At 80x80, it's about 14Kb (at really High JPEG compression). Even down at 10x10 (which you can't see) it's still 13Kb. Any ideas? _________________ Former weasel... |

Something is wrong with the software you are using to create the avatar. Or, could be operator error. You should be able to easily get an 80x80 under 13K, and a 10x10 under 1K (a fully uncompressed 10x10 is less than 1000 bytes).
If you can't get it to fly, email me your avatar image and I'll fix you up (rickr@mn.rr.com).

It's not a toll booth, but it is a towlebooth! After living in London it had to be. Yeah, I'm an anglophile. |

Test--after messing around for the last half hour, I finally got it under the max size (with Perrine's help) and I want to see what it looks like. _________________ There comes a time in every young boy's life when he gets an irresistible urge to seek buried treasure.--Mark Twain |
