I got the following e-mail today:
| Quote: |
Hello, I'm requesting to adopt your travel bug that you buried in the (GCHGX5)
graveyard. I don't have it nor have I've seen it, but my interest is in owning
it. If you find this request satisfactory please fill out this simple and
quick form on Geocaching.com that will transfer the ownership of the Travel
Bug. http://www.geocaching.com/adopt/. Thanks for your consideration. |
Anyone else get one of these? _________________ Sad state of affairs. |

Why would you adopt a missing TB? |

I am assuming they only offered to "adopt" and not to buy, eh?
Amounts to the same as begging
If you think about it, SB bought the tag and the number.... this person will use the number to re-release a travel bug of their own and not have to pay a dime for the use of the number or the bug page.
It's an interesting idea -- amazing what kind of @#$% some people have to approach a geo-stranger and ask for a freebie like that. As if!!
Why would gc.com even allow travel bug adoption anyway? What is the point of that? What are they even thinking?
Tell the guy to paypal you $10 and then he can adopt your dead bug LOL

I don't think it would up their stats. I think it would only add a bug to "trackable items owned" list...
but I am not sure how the whole process works. |

That's the exact stat I'm talking about. Maybe he trying to become the cacher with the most bugs. _________________ Airborne All the Way! |

I can only think of two reasons. 1- someone quits the game alltogether. 2- someone has passed away, in which case it would be hard to fill out the paperwork _________________ Onions the real man's Vegetable |

I think this is sort of interesting. I was wondering about this, too. Then as I was looking on Ebay I have noticed that some of the sellers are selling coins that have already been activated by the sellers. When you purchase the coin they will transfer ownership to you. I wonder if this is the reason that the gods have that option on the website for trackables???? _________________ King of the Jeff Gordon TB's!

I adopted ex-lawyer's TB "Chad and Sandra's Wedding"
He quit 'caching and gave me unactivated tags, swag and container's. My third largest cache container, donated by him, is in a state forest.
Nate told me that they would rather have an active cacher in control of, and watching over, active items. They also "automated" the process, to make it quicker, easier and only involve two people in the procedure.
Also, "trackables" are never really "archived"
They can and do appear years after the last log. |

I received the following e-mail back in February:
| Quote: |
Hello,
We are working at resurrecting lost & MIA Geocoins from the Travel Bug Graveyard and putting them back out for a second chance at life. We have been successful thus far with doing this. You have a coin(s) in the TB Graveyard. If you would like us to resurrect your coin(s) and put it/them back out there for its second chance go around, we would need to get the Geocoin tracking number from you. If not, nothing lost.
Thanks for you thoughts.

That's easy enough. Have somone that's found the TB send you the #. I have had this type of request before for bugs that weren't mine. All I do is tell them to contact the owner, I am not at liberty to give out other people bug #'s A couple of them insist that they moved them at one point or another for that cacher. It doesn't matter to me, but I never give out a TB # to anyone if the TB is not one of my own. Even if it is my own bug I still question them to try and verify that they have actually had the bug in hand, before I give that out. I tell them that if the bug was indeed put into another cache then the next cacher to grab the bug would still be able to log it. That's Just MHO though.
Never mind. Kitch must have replied to his own msg while I was typing. I s&*$ at typing. I blame Kitch!! _________________ King of the Jeff Gordon TB's!
