Since I didn't get any responses from seniors wanting to participate in a cache event as part of the Northland Senior Games, I decided to go in the other direction. This is a pre-announcement of the event:
Take a Kid Caching Day
Friday, July 21st (rain date: Friday, July 28th)
9:30am - 2pm
You must have a child to participate in this event! If you do not have a child, one will be provided to you. This event will be held at 2 locations. At the Gary/New Duluth Recreation Center, there will be a timed event on the Stowe Elementary Nature Trails and a kids only micro event on the park property. The other location will start at the Fond-du-Lac Recreation Center and will consist of non-timed temporary caches on the Mission Creek and Superior Hiking Trails up from the recreation center. There are also many EskoClimber puzzle caches and other established caches on these trails....so put on your thinking caps to solve them before attending. There will be prizes and certificates of participation as well as an opportunity to exchange Tbs and coins. Lunch is at the cafeteria in Stowe Elementary. The lunch is part of the free/reduced federal lunch program. For 18 years and younger, lunch is free. For over age 18, the cost is $2.50. If you do not want to re-live your school lunch days, an alternative would be the Senior Dining program at the Morgan Park Recreation Center, 1242 - 88th Ave. W. Over age 60 is free. Under age 60 is $6. There are also a couple of eating establishments in Gary/New Duluth.
Schedule:
Registration: 9:30am
Timed cache and temp cache: 10am
Lunch: 11:30-12:30pm (Stowe Elementary or Morgan Park Rec Center)
Dodgeball Cachers vs. kids: 12:30
If you don't have kids, don't worry...we have plenty and some are quite cache-savvy. More details will follow as we get closer. |

Sounds like a great idea. Will there be a background check before kids are turned loose with adults not bringing their own child? Or will this be on a set and supervised course? _________________ I am amazed by how many people harp on the need to speak and write English in this country while exhibiting a fundamental lack of skills in the areas of spelling and sentence composition. Would this be irony, hypocrisy, or both? |

No, it will be supervised with the staff at the sites....we have volunteers at our sites frequently that we don't do backgrounds on, but there are always staff there overseeing everything. |

Event is now published on gc.com. Please let me know when posting a note if you will be bringing children or can help the kids at the rec center participate. Some of the kids at the rec center can be "challenging" at times, but my staff there are great at dealing with any issues that could arise. Let me know if you have questions....thanks!
