Count in your finds on GC.Com. I understand they are not caches but then why even have them on there at all?

I guess in the past they were like TBs and coins. Because there's no better place to put them, they remain in your main stats. Maybe if they come across something else to hunt they can put those in a different area of your stats.

Or, maybe if they updated the Benchmark db, and tightened the guidelines, more people would hunt them! I can't count how many times I've seen finds incorrectly posted on these things, most often when someone finds a reference mark and not the actual mark, or when multiple people post finds on a mark that's clearly destroyed and gone. I gave up last summer when I posted a "destroyed" note on a mark destroyed as a "lookout tower" that just has the metal stubs from the legs left, then three people right afterwards posted finds saying I didn't know what I was talking about, because "the disk was still there". Argh...

I know plenty of people that log "finds" on caches that are not there with such illustrious disclaimers as "hope this is ok, it's clearly gone!"

I guess there should be someone who can delete "finds" that aren't legitimate but who?

And as far as reference marks go, I wouldn't have had an idea what one was until EskoClimber had talked about them in passing.

I am currently hunting Benchmarks for the contest on GC.Com sponsored by a member. I have to say that the rules being used for that contest seem appropriate in that a photo needs to accompany each find. I enjoy both types (BM and GC). It is unfortunate that others do incorrectly "Find" a mark but don't take the time to find out if the mark is correct that they are claiming credit for or if the mark is destroyed as in the tower with only the small amount of the base left. Normally it is the tower itself not the base, but to each there own. Just as with Geocaching benchmarking can be input soley for the Laughing .

Most challenging is a mark (VASA) in goodhue county that is the oldest mark for goodhue and because of the description it requires researching. I believe that coordinates on GC.com relate to the center of the old city VASA and that the mark is by a church and musuem, but no luck finding it yet. Crying or Very sad
