Yet another busy month with a lot going on in the Minnesota Geocaching Association as we have a ton of events coming up including the 2006 MnGCA Cannonball Wilderness Run and General Meeting. We’ve been busy getting all these things ready so there’s plenty to talk about:

Old Business:

1. The Great 2006 MnGCA Poker Run being held in early April. This event will be a “Poker Run” where you will get a hand of random cards from temporary caches during the day and when we all meet up for dinner in the evening the “winners” (high and low hands) will receive a 2006 MnGCA Silver Geocoin. We also have $100 worth of MnGCA logowear to give away!

A great big thanks goes out to Jambro for planning, writing up, and hosting this event!

jambro hosted one heck of an event! A great day for caching and a great opportunity to meet a bunch of great cachers! jambro has written up an article for the event which you can read here.

Lots of donated stuff was given away from the MnGCA, FSU*Noles, TheGilby3, etc. Definitely one of the best events I’ve been to in quite some time! If this is hosted again next year, I highly suggest you attend.

2. The 2006 International CITO Day in late April which is being held in Thomson County Park (Dakota County Parks). We will be picking up trash and spending the day chatting it up, caching, and possibly having a picnic lunch!

Dakota County Parks and the MnGCA need your help to make this event a big success! Please do show your support and post a “Will Attend” if you’re planning on making it.

We currently have about 15 people signed up to attend this event. If you’re looking to have lunch with us feel free to bring something along – if the weather is nice some of us will be hanging around to enjoy the day and a bite to eat.

If you have any questions about the event please contact sui generis.

3. The 2006 MnGCA Spring Event (Cannonball Wilderness Run) being held June 10th right outside of Faribault! This is going to be a blast. A huge park and beautiful park (over 850 acres) that will be chock full of caches, food, and fun.

If you’re planning on coming out be sure to let us know how many in your party (for free food) and what you’re bringing for dessert! Get ready to win some great prizes too.

We have obtained maps of the park and are preparing for the various hides that will be going in sometime in late May and early June. We’re also preparing the little stuff that’s necessary for the General Meeting.

Oneied Cooky already has his ideas for how to prepare the brats and how to get as many people fed as quickly as possible. Don’t forget to mark what kind of dessert you plan on bringing to share when you sign up!

Hope for great weather and we look forward to seeing everyone there!

New Business:

Arrow 1. We were contacted by one of the editors and writers for Bloomington Magazine who was interested in doing an article on geocaching for their June or August edition. We’ll keep you all updated as to when this will come out and where you can get your copies, if your interested, as soon as we know.

Arrow 2. The first order of MnGCA Window Clings has been placed. Thanks go out to GeoPierce for designing and ordering the clings and also to Pear Head for accepting the prepay and sending in the money to the company. We’re planning on having another order, perhaps in the fall, for those of you that might be interested. We’ll let you know when the pre-orders will open again.

Arrow 3. Recently, the Breakfast Buddies have been attracting some huge numbers! The last two locations had around 50 attendees! We’re excited to see these events continue to grow in popularity. The next event will be held in Fargo, ND and everyone is encouraged to attend.

Groups from all over MN, ND, and even as far away as Manitoba Canada are going to be joining us! There are currently about 21 people signed up. If you’re interested please post a “Will Attend” by 4/26/06 so that we can make reservations for our group.

Check out the event cache page here:

The next Breakfast Buddies in the metro will be held in Woodbury on May 20th:

That’s all for this month. Check back in May for more updates!

Happy cachin',
