No.... I don't have one, Matt doesn't have one and obviously Chris doesn't have one. I was really confused yesterday when everybody at breakfast wanted to see my gold coin... Everybody just assumed that both Matt and I each had one, which was weird because I didn't even realize they existed. Somebody suggested we ought to email Bill about it, so I did.....
I think the only past board members/chairs who got or were offered anything were the 2005 board. Bill PM'd me lsat night that the gold ones were sold to other various MNGCA members, so I guess they are all gone.
Unfortunately I was busy with personal obligations during the whole sale time and was rarely online so I missed out on the whole thing including the silver ones......
Yes, I wish I did have one (sigh)......maybe next year.
Somebody at breakfast said you can sometimes get them on ebay, so I suppose I'll have to go that route, eh?
Matt, Chris, Ian, Chad and I ought to make our own "MNGCA Founders coins" in a double secret, uber-limited, diamond studded, platinum edition (I'm kidding - don't get excited!)

Hmmmmmm..... is this the SAME extra coin you offered to me at the breakfast??? I see how you are!! (grin)
Chris - We'll have to play a quick game of rock, paper, scissors to see who gets it. |

Hi there Centris, long time no hear. Hope all is getting better. As a past Board member, I didn't get a gold one either, just the silver that I bought. I think it was just the 2005 board that got the free ones.
Luv ya all any way, Liverbird. _________________ Save the earth.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't find, and don't recall any mention of gold coins in the forums before it showed up on ebay.
I have accepted the bylaws, and become a member, only to be eligible to vote this year. |

Hmm, looks like I inadvertantly started a lil' battle here, my apologies for that, it was NOT my intent. As it turns out, I badly mispoke earlier when I was musing on coins going to the past board members - we had discussed sending coins out to the "founding fathers" of this organization but all the discussions over the final distribution happened during a time where I was traveling to the four corners of the earth, so I was not as involved as I would have liked to have been. So, that (and this discussion) are entirely my fault, sorry for bringing it up - we did the best we could, and if there are any past board members who are NOT currently in possession of a silver MNGCA geocoin, please PM or e-mail me and I will do what I can. I have a few left that I was going to use as giveaways at various events like the Cannonball Wildnerness Run etc, but I would gladly rather see them in the hands of those who served their time here, so we can all enjoy the fruits of their efforts. So again, past board members, drop me a line, and I apologize again.
As for the GOLD coins, I can honestly say, that was a surprise to *everyone* on the committee, save one - it was NEVER part of the plan to mint a limited LE version of the coin. That was done as a surprise, and I do believe, was done with GOOD intentions, to be used as special gifts or rewards. I agree the end result may not appear that way, but I can also say that there was no intent to do anything secret or underhanded in the way those coins were created, distributed, or sold.
Again, I do want to point out, to everyone that has complained about this - *everyone* here had a chance to join the geocoin committee and guide this process through - if you didn't then, and are unhappy with how it turned out, PLEASE make sure you're involved in the next geocoin committee so your input will make a difference. I know I will be on that committee, if allowed, and will be pushing as hard as I can for a gc.com trackable coin...I think that would be icing on the cake, and will drive sales even more.
So, hope that helps a bit, but I guess we'll see...thanks,
-Ken |

What is the status of the current committee?? Are they wanting new members to the committee?? etc... |

Not complaining at all, just letting Centris know stuff. I always appreciate the hard work of others. _________________ Save the earth.

As far as I know, there really isn't a formal committee right now. Or, more accurately, I don't think the current team has disbanded, but there's really nothing for us to do right now. I know the plan is to mint one coin a year, so we have many months before things heat up, but I would imagine at some point in a few months we'll have to start thinking about artwork, ideas, and so on. And that's about all I know, I'm just hangin' out and trying not to spend too much $$ on other coins in the meantime! If you or anyone else is volunteering to join the effort, I know you won't be turned down!

Sounds like even if you were on the committee, you would have been surprised by this outcome whether you liked it or not, but it doesn't appear that being on a committee will give you any ability to prevent this from happening in the future...nice thought to say "help or be quiet" but even those who helped didn't see this coming.
For the record, I think the gold coins are cool, and the thought to award them to people was fine. |

Buy a set of travelbug dog tags (or another geocoin if you wish), find a way to attach it to the coin (etchtracking number on surface, drill a hole in the coin and attach the tage..) Or you could develop your own tracking site and attach the logging information with the coin. |
