When heading out to go 'caching this morning, I grabbed a CD I hadn't listened too for quite some time, "Too High to Die" by the Meat Puppets. The disc contains a song, "Comin' Down" that seems an apt description of geocaching. In particular, it brought to mind Silent Bob's experience at The Concrete Rainbow.
Coming down from the mountain
I have seen the high and mighty
I will go again someday
But for now I'm coming down
Coming down from the mountain
I have seen the lofty glory
I will go again someday
But for now I'm coming down
I have seen their information
On the lighter side of dumbness
I have heard the new statistics
And the stomping on the ground
Picking slowly up the rockslide
One thing always seems apparent
If the climb becomes too much
I can always turn around
Waking up from my slumber
To misunderstand another
Though they call it terra firma
It dissolves beneath my feet
Looking through a pile of garbage
For some worthless piece of paper
That's been hidden there for me
To give meaning to my day
Going down to the desert
To the dirty filthy desert
I'll be crawling through the sand
For at least a couple days
Going down to the desert
There are things worth avoiding
And it always makes me cross
When those things get in my way.
Coming down from the mountain
I have seen the high and mighty
I will go again someday
But for now I'm coming down
Coming down from the mountain
I have seen the lofty glory
I will go again someday
But for now I'm coming down _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."

I always find myself humming Duran Duran's "Notorious" when searching for a cache by a particular 'cacher:
No, no. . . . . . . . NOTORIOUS!!
King, king. . . . . .KING BOREAS!!
Always find it kind of fitting as well as catchy. |

Over Christmas a totall different discussion got this one started....
(to the tune of Jingle Bells)
Geo-Cache
Geo-Cache
Cache along the way!
Oh what fun it is to hide
(and we had trouble from there with the rest....)
Anybody else up to finishing the lyrics? |

....Oh what fun it is to FIND an ammo can a day, hey!
....Oh what fun it is to follow an arrow all day, hey!
Crunching through the snow
With one goal in mind
To gather up the booty
Hope the previous finder was kind!
Driving through the streets
Wasting lots of gas
To find a plastic box
Most people say, "I'll pass"
Why do we do this thing?
Why do we love it so?
Summer months its muck
And winter months its snow
Enter in the coords
Get into your car
After a few months of it
You have to drive quite far!
Get your cache count high
Hide some here and there
Go back to all the hard ones
That first gave you a scare!
Wander through the woods
Hope your batteries last
If they start to die
You better move your a**!
Jumping over logs
Crawling on your hands
Getting muddy knees
Ruining many pants!
Then there are the bugs
That crawl on your clothes
Better cover your face
Or they'll climb right up your nose!
When it's really cold
Your unit starts to crawl
"Hurry up and load already!"
Enough to make you bawl.
Then there's the weather
Cloudy then sunny next
What to bring and how to dress
Can leave you quite perplexed
How bout those crappy signals
That come from outer space?
10 feet, 5 feet...
But the cache is 80 feet out of place! |
