Anyone have any experience with Garmin Tech Support? My 76CS was working fine one day, and the next it won't turn on. The only way it will turn on is if you remove and re-install the batteries each time. Also the map page will not load. It starts to load but then doesn't ever finish.

I've never had the need to use them but the majority of things I've read on the gc.com forums have been very favorable.
You might want to try doing a master reset of the unit. Just don't ask me how it is done! Searching the gc.com forums might have the answer. _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."

Thanks Moe, I'll try that when I get home. I tried the firmware update last night but made no difference.

All of my experience with Tech Spt has been very positive.
Even their sales support was great. I wanted to buy some new software and the sales agent told me not to waste my money. When asked why he told me that they would be releasing new software in 3 months and that I should wait until then and save the cash. _________________ Airborne All the Way! |

I now know why he is called the Geo Stud! My GPS is working like new again. It does reset everything, my Odometer now reads 0.00. Maps seem to be in place and I downloaded all waypoints to my computer before the big reset. So I believe I'm back in business.
My only question now is why did I call SB on Saturday when I needed my GPS. Next time I'll know there is only one person to call!!! Moe Moe Moe!

Moe didn't spend all weekend out caching. "I'm owned, my wife says I have to stay in and clean out the basement."

Yup, and I still have the same wife after 26 years. May you do as well!
And she did let me out long enough to find 19 caches. _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."

| How quick is Garmin's turn-around on repairs? I dropped my gps on the hardwood floor while it was connected to it's USB. Everything is fine except that now the USB connection no longer works. I need it for MOGA. Should I chance it or try and load half the country's maps via the serial connection? |

Well it's not like you cache any other time of the year! It *should* be back in time for MOGA although you might want to check with them to make certain.
Wasn't the reason you went w/the 76CS because of how long it took to download your tracks from the setup of Punch Out last year? _________________ Sad state of affairs. |

I've read a lot of posts on the gc.com forums saying they were back in business in under two weeks. I think Garmin sends you back a different refurbished unit rather than your original. _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."

I had mine back in about a week. And yes, I did get a refurbished unit instead of my old one. They moved all my waypoints over even though I specified it wasn't necessary.
If your unit is still under warranty, and it needs work, get it done now. I didn't want to part with mine, so I kept making do, ran past the warranty date, then had to pony up something like $160 for the fix. |
